Release form

The drug is produced in two forms:

  • Eye drops. This is a clear liquid without any shade, which is produced in plastic dropper bottles of 5 ml each.
  • Ointment for the eyes. It is a translucent white-yellowish mass, placed in tubes of 2.5 g each.

Composition

In each form of Dex-Gentamicin, there are two active ingredients. This is antibiotic gentamicin (its dosage in 1 ml of drops and 1 g of ointment is 3 mg) and glucocorticoid dexamethasone (in drops it is presented in a dose of 1 mg / 1 ml, and in ointment - 300 μg / 1 g). Additionally, the liquid form of the drug includes potassium hydrogen phosphate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, a preservative additive (benzalkonium chloride), sodium chloride, and water. If we talk about the ointment, it can be noted that the active substances are supplemented with lanolin, liquid paraffin and white petrolatum.

Operating principle

Due to the combination of the hormone and the antibiotic, Dex-Gentamicin has both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects. This remedy is also used against allergies.. The use of drops or ointment inhibits most microbes, among which are pseudomonads, E. coli, staphylococcus, salmonella, Klebsiella and many other microorganisms.

Indications

Most often, "Dex-Gentamicin" is used in ophthalmology. It is prescribed for the topical treatment of pathologies such as keratitis, conjunctivitis, barley or blepharitis, if their pathogen is microbes that are sensitive to gentamicin.

The drug is also in demand for allergic eye damage, if a bacterial infection has joined it. In addition, the medication is used during the postoperative period, if you want to prevent or eliminate inflammation of the eyes after their surgical treatment.

ENT doctors can prescribe "Dex-Gentamicin" for rhinitis, rhinopharyngitis, sinusitis or adenoiditis of a bacterial nature. The drug may also be included in the composition of complex drops in the nose, the recipe for each patient is selected individually.

At what age is it allowed to take?

Contraindications

"Dex-Gentamicin" is not appointed:

In case of ophthalmologic diseases, the solution “Dex-Gentamicin” is dripped into each eye by 1-2 drops up to 6 times a day. The frequency of use of the ointment is 2-3 times a day, and for one use take a strip of the drug with a length of about 1 cm. The duration of therapy is usually 2-3 weeks and is determined by the doctor individually.

Drug interaction

“Dex-Gentamicin” is not recommended to be combined with heparin, atropine, amphotericin B and some other drugs noted in the abstract.
