Suspension "Ecoclav" for children: instructions for use

Content

Drugs that act on pathogenic bacteria due to amoxicillin, are very popular, because they do well with many infections and quickly improve the patient's condition. When clavulanic acid is added to the composition of such drugs, the therapeutic effect is enhanced, therefore antibiotics with such a combination of active ingredients are popular in the practice of ENTs, pediatricians and other specialists.

One of the preparations with such a composition is "Ecoclav". Such a domestic drug especially for small patients is available in powder. By adding water to it, they get a sweet-tasting suspension, which most children drink without any problems. She does not have any age restrictions, that is, such a tool can be prescribed for infants, for schoolchildren, and for adult patients.

Release form and composition

Ecoclav powder is sold in 125 ml glass brown bottles. In one bottle is 25 grams of white powder, which has a faint smell of fruit. After mixing with water, it becomes a white or yellowish sweet fruit suspension. The manufacturer attaches a double-sided spoon to the bottle. On the one hand, it can take 2.5 ml of the suspension, and 5 ml is measured in a large spoon.

Amoxicillin as part of "Ecoclav" represented by two dosages - this antibiotic in five milliliters of diluted medication can be 125 mg or 250 mg. The dose of clavulanic acid varies depending on the amount of amoxicillin. It is 31.25 mg in 5 ml of a suspension containing 125 mg of amoxicillin and, accordingly, 62.5 mg in a preparation with a higher dosage of the antibacterial component.

One of the features of "Ecoclav" in comparison with analogues is the presence of lactulose excipients in the composition in the list at a dose of 200 mg and 400 mg. In addition, the drug includes xanthan gum, aspartame, mannitol, sodium benzoate, aerosil, and some other inactive ingredients that are important to clarify for patients with intolerance.

In addition to the liquid form, "Ecoclav" also produced in tablets. They have an oval shape and a white film shell. The amount of clavulanic acid in each such tablet is 125 mg, and the dosage of amoxicillin is 250 mg or 500 mg, as well as 875 mg. This version of “Ecoclav” is prescribed to patients over 12 years old, if their body weight is more than 40 kg.

Operating principle

Amoxicillin present in Ecoclav is able to destroy various types of pathogenic bacteria, including staphylococci, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, gonococci, hemophilic bacilli and many other types of microbes. Such an antibiotic disrupts the synthesis of walls in the cells of bacteria, which prevents their growth and leads to death. Clavulanic acid binds to beta-lactamases (enzymes that produce many pathogens), with the result that amoxicillin is not destroyed by bacteria and its bactericidal effect persists.

Indications

"Ecoclav" is prescribed for the infection process caused by bacteria in respect of which this antibiotic is active.

The drug is used:

  • with bronchitis, pneumonia and other infectious processes in the lower respiratory tract;
  • with tonsillitis, sinusitis, and other bacterial infections of the ear, nose, or throat;
  • pyelitis, inflammation of the urethra, cystitis and other cases of infection of the urogenital organs;
  • with abscess, wound infection, erysipelas, phlegmon and other lesions caused by pathogenic bacteria of soft tissues and skin;
  • with osteomyelitis and infection of the joints.

Contraindications

"Ecoclav" should not be given to patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of this drug, as well as an allergic reaction to any penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. Such a liquid drug due to the presence in the composition of aspartame is contraindicated in phenylketonuria. The drug is also not prescribed for children with infectious mononucleosis, and for any diseases of the digestive tract it should be used with caution.

Doctor's control is also required for severe violations of the kidneys or liver.

Side effects

Occasionally, the children's body reacts to the suspension with diarrhea, nausea, urticaria, headache and other negative symptoms.

If at least one of them manifested itself in a small patient, you should immediately inform the attending physician.

Instructions for use

The treatment with “Ecoclav” in powder should be started with the correct preparation of the suspension. Since she has a short shelf life, you need to prepare a liquid preparation just before you start giving it to a child. After shaking the powder, open the bottle and add a little water, which is pre-boiled and cooled. Having mixed powder with liquid, it is necessary to add water to a mark on a small bottle.

The doctor should calculate the dosage of the medication, since the weight of the child and his age affectas well as localization, stage (initial, high) and severity of infection. The duration of Ecoclav reception is also determined individually and can be from 5 to 14 days, but on average, the agent is taken 7-10 days.

Dose calculation is performed on amoxicillin. If the treatment requires a baby for up to three months, then give 30 mg of antibiotic per 1 kg of weight. This daily dosage is divided into two doses. At the age of 3 months, the dose ranges from 20 to 40 mg per kilogram of body weight, and divide it into three doses.

If a patient weighs more than 40 kg, he is prescribed adult dosages of the drug - 20 ml of “Ecoclav” with amoxicillin dosage of 125 mg or 10 ml of suspension with a higher dose of antibiotic. In such single doses, the medication is taken twice or thrice a day.

Overdose and drug interactions

With an excessively high dose of Ecoclav, a child may experience digestive disorders or electrolyte imbalances. Symptomatic remedies are used for the treatment.

With regard to the combination of suspensions with other drugs, then "Ecoclav" should not be taken together with allopurinol, antacids, some diuretics and other drugs, noted in the annotation.

Terms of sale and storage

You can buy Ecoclav in a pharmacy by prescription, which should be obtained from your doctor. The average price of one bottle is 200-250 rubles. The shelf life of EcoClava, if the powder is sealed, is 2 years.

A bottle of diluted drug must be refrigerated and stored there for no longer than 7 days after dilution with water. The suspension must be thrown away after a week, even if it is not fully consumed.

Reviews

Almost all the reviews about "EcoClave" in liquid form are positive. They praise the drug for ease of use in children, pleasant taste and effective action. Side effects during treatment with such a suspension are rare, but sometimes still occur.

The disadvantages of funds include the need to keep the bottle in the refrigerator and a short shelf life.

Analogs

The replacement of "Ecoclav" can be another drug, in which there are the same two active components. Among them in liquid form release "Augmentin", "Amoxiclav, Medoclav and Panklav 2X.Such antibiotics are used for the same diseases in the same dosages, and the negative side effects of them are also similar.

In addition, instead of "Ecoclav" the doctor may prescribe any drug amoxicillin, for example, "Amosin" or "Ospamox". Due to the absence of clavulanic acid, such agents can not cope with all pathogens, but they can be given for angina, bronchitis and some other infectious pathologies.

It is possible to carry drugs of group of cephalosporins to analogs of "Ekoklava". They are quite effective, but should be prescribed by a doctor, as they have some limitations in use. Children often prescribe drugs that can be given inside, for example, "Suprax», «Cedex" or "Zinnat". However, in severe cases, instead of “Ecoclava” and cephalosporins in powder or granules, the pediatrician may also prescribe injection drugs, for example, “Ceftriaxone" or "Cefotaxime».
