Content

When you have sore throat, tickling or dry cough, doctors often prescribe local remedies that affect harmful microorganisms. Among the many candies, tablets and lozenges with antiseptic action can be distinguished drug called "Faringosept."

It is popular in adults with pharyngitis and various inflammatory processes in the mouth, but can this remedy be given to children? Does this drug harm the children's body, in what doses it is advised to use it in children and which analogs can be replaced if the child refuses the medicine or is allergic to it?

Release form

"Faringosept" is a product of the famous Indian pharmaceutical company Ranbaxy and is available in only one form, which are lozenges. They have cocoa and vanilla flavor, round shape, smooth surface and slightly beveled edges. Such a drug has a brown-yellow color, although in the structure of the tablet there may be small bright patches.

Separately produced "Faringosept" with lemon flavor. The difference between these tablets, in addition to taste, is the presence of an extruded letter "L" on the surface of one of the sides of the drug. Tablets are sold in blisters of 10 pieces, and in a single carton is one or two blisters.

Composition

Both types of tablets - both ordinary and lemon - as the main ingredient, due to which the drug has medicinal properties, contain amazonone monohydrate. Its dosage is 10 mg per tablet. For a dense structure, polyvidone K30, gum arabic and magnesium stearate are added to the medication, and for sweet taste, tablets contain sucrose, milk sugar, cocoa and vanillin (in lemon “Faringosept” it is replaced by lemon flavoring).

Operating principle

The active substance "Faringosept" has an antimicrobial effect, which consists in slowing the growth of harmful bacteria (this effect is called bacteriostatic). The drug affects a variety of microorganisms, among which are pneumococci, streptococci, and many gram-negative bacteria that can affect the mucous membrane of the pharynx and oral cavity.

A tablet placed in the mouth also stimulates the secretion of saliva, which, due to the natural substance of lysozyme, additionally affects harmful microbes and activates the healing of damaged areas of the mucous membrane. Moreover, due to resorption, tickling and a feeling of dryness in the throat are eliminated.

The antiseptic effect of the drug develops within half an hour from the beginning of the resorption of the pill, and a sufficient therapeutic effect is noted after three to four days from the start of administration. In this case, the tool only affects bacteria that are on the mucous membrane of the oropharynx.

Unlike antibiotics, medication in the lower digestive tract does not affect the composition of the normal intestinal flora, that is, dysbacteriosis after treatment with Faringoseptom does not develop.

Indications

"Faringosept" is effective in inflammatory and infectious process, which originated in the oral cavity and pharynx. The medicine is prescribed for:

  • pharyngitis;
  • angina;
  • tracheitis;
  • laryngitis;
  • gingivitis;
  • stomatitis

Tablets can also be used for prophylaxis, for example, if a patient had a tooth pulled out or an tonsil surgery performed. In such situations, the active substance "Faringosept" will prevent complications that can cause pathogenic bacteria.

At what age is it allowed to take?

In the paper annotation, which is attached to the tablets, it is noted that "Faringosept" is not used in the treatment of children under three years of age. This is due to the characteristics of taking solid drugs by young children. A child who is not yet 3 years old will not be able to dissolve the medication for a long time and, most likely, will swallow a pill, so the desired therapeutic effect will not be achieved. That is why the drug is contraindicated for one year old babies and children aged 2 years.

Contraindications

As the manufacturer notes, the treatment with Faringosept is prohibited only if one or several components of the tablets are intolerant. However, since the tablets contain quite a lot of sucrose, it is also not recommended to give such medicine to diabetics. In addition, due to the presence in the composition of milk sugar, Faringosept cannot be used even if there is a lack of an enzyme called lactase or lactose intolerance.

Side effects

The use of "Faringosept" can provoke an allergic reaction, for example, cause the appearance of a skin rash or itching. In this situation, treatment is immediately stopped and turn to the pediatrician to select a counterpart, which will replace these pills. When the patient has completely absorbed the pill, one should neither eat nor drink water for two to three hours afterwards. So the active ingredients of the drug will continue to affect the mucous membrane of the oropharynx for as long as possible.

A single dose of "Faringosept" is one pill. For children aged 3-7 years, it is given three times a day, and for patients older than seven years, the frequency of use can be increased up to 4-5 times. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor, but usually “Faringosept” is given to children within 3-5 days. Longer reception surely needs to be coordinated with the pediatrician. If after 2-3 days of application there is no visible improvement, the child should also be examined by a specialist.

Such lozenges are also used from 4 years. In addition, children over 6 years old can be given Septolete Plus, the effect of which is due to the combination of cetylpyrinium chloride and benzocaine.
  • «Grammidin children». These tablets have antimicrobial properties due to gramicidin C, as well as antiseptic cetylpyrinium chloride. The drug is used in various diseases of the oropharynx from the age of four.
  • «Imudon». Such mint tablets contain lysates of various microorganisms, including lactobacilli, corynebacterium, streptococcus, and candida.
