Oracept for children: instructions for use

To help the sore throat, patients often come with antiseptic drugs that can eliminate pain, affect harmful bacteria and speed healing. One of these effective local remedies is the Oracept spray. It is often prescribed for various diseases of the throat for both adult patients and children.

Release form and composition

Oracept is produced in transparent plastic bottles with a dispenser, inside of which there is 177 ml of a bright red cherry-flavored liquid.

The main ingredient of this drug is phenol, which is presented in 1 ml of solution with a dosage of 14 mg, that is, at a concentration of 1.4%. Glycerin and purified water are added to it so that the product is liquid and easy to spray. For sweet taste in the preparation there is saccharin sodium, and the bright color and the pleasant taste of the medication are provided by the red dye and cherry flavor.

How does it work?

Phenol contained in “Orasept” has no toxic effect, as its concentration is low.

In diluted form, this substance is able to destroy bacteria and fungi. In addition to this antiseptic effect, the water-glycerin solution of phenol has an anesthetic effect, which is important for pain in the mouth. Due to the presence of glycerin, the drug additionally softens the mucous membrane.

Indications

"Oracept" is in demand for various diseases in the pharynx and oral cavity, which are characterized by pain and inflammation. This spray is used for:

  • angina;
  • periodontitis;
  • stomatitis;
  • tonsillitis;
  • gingivitis;
  • pharyngitis

In addition, the processing of "Orasept" is used for various dental procedures and other manipulations in the oral cavity or in the throat.

Is it used in childhood?

The use of "Orasept" is prohibited for children under 2 years. Treatment with a throat or mouth cavity of children aged 2-12 years should be carried out only under the supervision of an adult.

Contraindications

The use of "Orasept" is strictly prohibited in case of hypersensitivity to phenol or any auxiliary ingredient of the drug.

The drug also can not be used in children with impaired liver or severe kidney disease, since such diseases affect the metabolism of phenol. Irrigation "orasept" is contraindicated and with epiglottitis. The tool is also not used if the lesion of the mucous membrane is very extensive.

Side effects

During treatment with Oraseptom, in rare cases, severe sore throat, fever, rash on the body, vomiting, headache, pain, severe nausea and other symptoms occur.

When they appear, you should immediately abandon irrigation and consult a doctor. Spray does not affect the condition of the teeth, so the enamel is not damaged under its action.

Instructions for use

The drug is sprayed with one click on the affected area up to three times per day. Between sprays should be kept at intervals of 2-4 hours. If the child is 12 years old, the frequency of treatment can be increased up to 5 times. The drug can be swallowed.

Regarding the duration of treatment, it is possible to use Oracept only for a few days. The maximum term of spray application is one week. If after 5-7 days from the start of treatment, symptoms of oropharynx lesions still remain, you should show the child to the doctor to change the treatment regimen.

Overdose

Too high a dose of "Orasept" adversely affects the patient's condition and can provoke dizziness, vomiting, sweating, pain at the treatment site, weakness, diarrhea and other symptoms.

With a significant overdose, the central nervous system is inhibited and internal organs are damaged, and death is possible (if the patient receives more than 1 g of phenol). Finding an overdose, it is recommended to wash the stomach and seek medical help.

Drug interaction

"Oracept" is often used together with other drugs that are prescribed for inflammation in the oropharynx, for example, with antibiotics or sulfa drugs. However, there are medications, the use of which "Orasept" should consult with your doctor. These include MAO inhibitors, vasoconstrictors, hypnotics and other drugs.

Terms of sale and storage

Buy a spray in a pharmacy can be easily, because this medicine is a group of non-prescription drugs. The shelf life of the solution is 2 years and is listed on the bottle. Storage of the drug is recommended at room temperature, and it is impossible to freeze the solution. To eliminate the risk of an overdose, Oracept should be safely hidden from children.

There are many positive reviews about the use of "Orasept", in which the drug is called effective and pleasant to the taste. Among its minuses, it is noted that the price is high, and it can be difficult to find a drug in pharmacies.

Analogs

  • «Tantum Verde». This spray contains benzydamine, which has anti-inflammatory effects, as well as antifungal and antimicrobial effects. It can be sprayed onto the oropharyngeal membrane for children over three years old or replaced with Tantum Verde tablets, which have mint flavor, square shape and green color. In addition, under this name still produce a solution, but it is prescribed only 12 years.
  • "Stomatidin". This solution has antiseptic properties due to the presence in the composition of hexatidine. It is used in children older than five years for the treatment of stomatitis, sore throats and other pathologies, in which they also use Orasept. Instead of “Stomatidine”, analogs with the same active ingredient, for example, “Maxicold Law” or “Hexoral” can also be assigned.
  • «Ingalipt». This combination drug acts on microorganisms that provoke the inflammatory process in the oropharynx. This spray is prescribed to patients older than three years with laryngitis, stomatitis, tonsillitis and other diseases.
  • «Miramistin». This antiseptic liquid destroys many bacteria and fungi, as well as viruses, so it is often used for sore throat, gingivitis and other pathologies. One of the main advantages of this tool is its safety at any age, thanks to which Miramistin is prescribed even for infants.
  • Oralcept. Despite a similar name, this medicine works thanks to benzidamine, like Tantum Verde. This spray is in demand for inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth, laryngitis and other diseases of the throat. It is prescribed for children over three years old.
