Protargol for babies: instructions for use

Content

"Protargol" has established itself as an effective remedy for rhinitis, colds, adenoids, sinus and many other diseases. Such a drug is characterized by a small number of contraindications and local action, so it can be prescribed from birth.

Drug features

"Protargol" can be bought in liquid form (such drops are prepared in pharmacies to order) or you can make at home yourself from powder or tablets, adding sterile water to them. The powder form of the medicine is sold in glass bottles with a cap-pipette or stopper. This is a light hygroscopic mass of dark brown.

"Protargol" in solid form is a tablet with a very dark brown color (almost black), round color. Such a tablet is placed in a blister and sold together with 10 ml of solvent in a separate ampoule, as well as with an empty glass bottle that has a cap with a pipette. After combining with water from such a tablet, as well as from a powder, an odorless brown solution with a bitter taste is obtained.

The main ingredient of this solution is silver proteinate (protein molecules combined with silver ions). Its amount in one bottle of powder is 200 mg, and other components in this form of medication are absent. One tablet also contains 200 mg of such a silver compound, but for binding to such “Protargol” they additionally include povidone.

By adding 10 ml of water to the powder or tablet, a 2% solution is obtained. Sometimes the doctor prescribes a drug with a different concentration, for example, 1% remedy, then the proportion will be different.

How does it work?

Silver protein has disinfectant and antiseptic effects, since silver ions released from it are able to inhibit the proliferation of bacteria, causing pathogens to die. Different bacteria causing inflammation of ENT organs and fungi are sensitive to Protargol. The solution acts on the pathogenic flora more actively, and non-pathogenic microorganisms do not die under the action of silver, therefore treatment with Protargol, unlike antibiotics, does not provoke dysbiosis.

Due to the fact that silver is able to precipitate protein molecules on the mucous membrane, a protective film is formed after treatment with Protargol. It causes the drug to be present. strong anti-inflammatory action. This film makes the damaged areas of the mucous membrane less sensitive, and also contributes to the narrowing of blood vessels, which leads to a decrease in the activity of the inflammatory response.

Is it allowed for babies?

There are no age restrictions for the treatment with Protargol, so this solution can also be used by nursing infants. However, the appointment of the drug to a newborn or an older baby is the task of the doctor.

The use of such medication without a pediatrician or ENT doctor examination is not recommended, and self-treatment can be dangerous for the body crumbs.

In case of otitis media, the medication is dropped into the ears, and in case of eye diseases, on the conjunctiva. The dosage for such pathologies should be clarified with a specialist.

If the drug is used too long or is treated with higher doses, silver ions can accumulate in the tissues, so it is important not to overdose so as not to provoke poisoning.

Terms of sale and storage

"Protargol" is sold without a prescription, and the price of one package, depending on the manufacturer and dosage form, can be from 80 to 180 rubles.

Analogs

Instead of "Protargol" can be used a drug called "Sialor Protargol." It costs a bit more expensive, but is a full-fledged counterpart, since it also acts due to silver proteinate and is used for the same pathologies. Instead, the doctor may prescribe infants and other drugs for the common cold, for example, Chlorophyllipt, Aqua Maris, or "Miramistin".
