"Elevit" for pregnant women: instructions for use

Content

A pregnant woman needs to get enough vitamins and mineral salts to avoid problems with gestation and give birth to a healthy baby. Providing increased nutritional needs from food during this period is not easy, so most doctors advise drinking multivitamin preparations.

One of the most popular supplements for expectant mothers are the Elevit complexes from the well-known Bayer Company.

Types of drugs and their composition

Under the name “Elevit”, two different multivitamin complexes are proposed for women in the situation depending on the duration of pregnancy.

Calculate the duration of pregnancy
Enter the first day of the last menstrual period.

Especially for the first weeks of gestation, during which the most important organs of the baby are formed, a drug is developed "Planning and the first trimester."

In its composition there are 12 essential vitamins that are most needed for a woman's body in the first trimester. Among them are vitamins of group B, vitamins E, D, C and A, biotin, niacin and folate. The latter are a source of folic acid, which is extremely important for the proper development of the crumbs in early pregnancy. Among them is calcium L-methylfolate, called metafolin. This is an active form that is well absorbed in the body of almost all women, even if they are not able to normally absorb normal folic acid.

In addition to vitamin compounds, there are also 8 macro and micro elements for “planning and newly pregnant women” in “Elevit”. These are iron, iodine, copper, calcium, magnesium, selenium, manganese and zinc. The tablets themselves are oval-shaped and have a white dense shell. They are sold in boxes of 30 pieces packed in blisters of 10 tablets. The average price of such a complex is 500 rubles.

Starting from week 13, expectant mothers are advised to take a multivitamin complex called Elevit Pronatal.

These are also tablets that are characterized by an elongated shape and have a yellow shell. They are sold in packs of 30 pieces (cost an average of 600-700 rubles) or 100 tablets (the average price is 1500-1700 rubles).

Their main differences from the complex for the first trimester:

  • such tablets are also a source of 12 vitamins, but their dosages are selected according to the needs in the late periods and during the period of breastfeeding;
  • the complex contains more folic acid for the normal development of the crumbs (from each tablet the expectant mother receives it at a dose of 800 micrograms);
  • instead of niacin, another form of vitamin PP (nicotinamide) was added to the drug, which less often provokes negative reactions;
  • there are less minerals and trace elements in such an additive - only 7, while there is no iodine and selenium, phosphorus is added, and the dosages of zinc and manganese are slightly lower;
  • calcium, magnesium and phosphorus in the composition of the drug "Pronatal" is represented by several compounds at once, which contributes to their better absorption;
  • on the surface of the tablet there is a risk according to which the drug can be broken into halves when it is difficult to swallow.

    The use of complexes "Elevit" helps:

    • strengthen the nonspecific immune defenses of the female body;
    • prevent defects of the nervous system, heart and other organs of the fetus;
    • regulate the work of all the internal organs of the future mother;
    • maintain normal hemoglobin levels to prevent anemia;
    • normalize blood vessels and reduce the risk of bleeding;
    • ensure the proper development of the child's musculoskeletal system;
    • smoothing problems with nutrition, for example, with early toxicosis;
    • reduce the risk of abortion;
    • avoid the development of placental insufficiency;
    • improve the mood and general condition of the future mother;
    • prepare the female body for breastfeeding;
    • recover quickly in the postpartum period.

    Indications

    Supplements "Elevit" are recommended for diagnosed hypovitaminosis in expectant mothers, and to prevent it. The reception of "Elevita" is especially important for:

    • expectant mothers over 30;
    • women who have had problems with gestation in the past;
    • pregnant women who, for one reason or another, feed incompletely.

    Contraindications

    The instructions for pregnant Elevit multivitamins noted that such drugs are forbidden to use in case of hypersensitivity to any of their ingredients.

    Such funds are not written out in some other cases:

    • if a woman is suspected of hypervitaminosis A or D (such vitamins can accumulate in the body);
    • if tests of the future mom's blood or urine showed too high calcium levels;
    • if a pregnant woman has developed anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency (it is called pernicious);
    • if the future mom's kidneys do not perform their function well, which led to severe insufficiency;
    • if a woman has urolithiasis;
    • in violation of the exchange of copper or iron.

    Complex "Pronatal" is also not used for lactose intolerance, because this ingredient is included in the list of auxiliary ingredients of these tablets. This leads to a ban on admission and the lack of lactase, as well as malabsorption of glucose-galactose.

      It is also important to clarify which drugs the woman additionally takes, because multivitamins are incompatible with some antimicrobial drugs, antacids and other means. You should also not combine "Elevit" with other multivitamins, because it will increase the risk of overdose of some compounds.

      Side effect

      Like any other multivitamin, "Elevit" sometimes provokes an allergic reaction, because it is a multi-component remedy.

      A woman may develop redness of the skin, swelling of facial tissues, urticaria, and other signs of allergies. Their occurrence should be the reason for the termination of taking "Elevit" and going to a doctor to select another drug for vitamin prophylaxis.

      Some expectant mothers respond to pills with indigestion, such as constipation, bowel pain, nausea, or loose stools. Occasionally, the drug causes insomnia, dizziness, increased irritability or headache. In such cases, "Elevit" is better to replace other multivitamins for pregnant women.

      Since both complexes for future mothers include iron, the chair of the woman during the reception of Elevita becomes darker (almost black). The presence of vitamin B2 also often changes the color of urine, as a result of which it becomes bright yellow. Such changes are harmless and in no way affect either the state of the pregnant woman or the development of the infant.

      How to use?

      Both supplements "Elevit", intended for pregnant women, should be drunk every day with one tablet, since it is this portion that includes nutrients in a daily dose.

      To eliminate adverse reactions from the digestive system, it is best to take pills with food or immediately after a meal.

      The most preferred time for taking "Elevita" is morning. You should not drink the complex after noon, as its activating effect may affect the sleep and cause problems with nighttime sleep. To wash down the drug, using ordinary clean water in a volume of 100-150 ml. Damaging the shell of the “Planning and First Trimester” pills should not be, therefore, they are simply swallowed.

        The tablet "Pronatal", if necessary, is permissible to be divided into halves and swallow them one by one, washing down each with water.

        It is important to follow these recommendations:

        • the expectant mother should not prescribe "Elevit" by herself - it is allowed to drink such complexes after consulting with an obstetrician-gynecologist;
        • you should not take more than one tablet per day, because it threatens with an overdose of vitamins D and A, copper and iron;
        • the duration of the course is usually 1 month, after which a short pause is made, but such details should be clarified with your doctor;
        • if any alarming symptoms occur while using “Elevit”, you should immediately inform a specialist about it;
        • Before taking pills, you should check the expiration date on their packaging, which is 2 years from the date of issue.
