Physical saline for children's inhalations

Content

Procedures such as inhalation, help in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory tract and their prevention. For their implementation, a nebulizer is usually used - a device in which a liquid drug becomes an aerosol. Getting into the children's body, this aerosol affects the respiratory organs and accelerates recovery. One of the most common drugs used for therapeutic and prophylactic inhalation is saline.

What is it?

Saline is an aqueous solution of sodium chloride with a concentration of 0.9%. It is called physiological (another common name is isotonic solution) for its similarity with blood plasma. Due to this similarity, saline solution is easily absorbed and helps to restore the water-salt balance.

Should I buy at the pharmacy?

In the pharmacy network you will find saline in ampoules and vials. Its main advantage is sterility, since such a drug is made in the laboratory.

How to cook yourself?

If you are going to make a saline solution at home, you can take a clean salt, preferably finely ground (for better dissolution).

On a teaspoon of salt with a hill take one liter of warm boiled filtered water. Carefully stirring the salt in water, you can store this solution for up to 24 hours in a refrigerator.

  • Before you make inhalation with this homemade saline solution, it should be heated to room temperature.
  • Remember that this solution is unsterile, so that during inhalation not only water with salt, but also microbes will get into the respiratory tract. Therefore, the pharmacy version of saline solution is more preferable, especially since its cost is low.
  • Instead of saline for inhalation, you can use alkaline mineral waters.

Indications

The use of saline for inhalation is indicated for:

  • Runny nose.
  • Throat diseases
  • Diseases of the bronchi and lungs.
  • SARS.
  • Adenoids.

The basic principle of the effect of such inhalations on the child’s body is to maximize the moistening of the respiratory tract. It improves the production of mucus, eliminating dry cough, and also accelerates the excretion of sputum.

Are there any contraindications?

Breathe with saline or other drugs diluted with saline, it is impossible at elevated body temperature, a tendency to bleeding from the nose, as well as otitis.

If a child has a runny nose with purulent discharge, the procedure may worsen the course of the disease. In addition, inhalation with saline is not recommended for violations of water-salt balance and heart failure.

About what you need to know when conducting inhalations, see the video of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia.

Inhalation dosage

To carry out inhalation with a saline solution to a small child, the medicine is poured into a nebulizer in the amount of 3-4 milliliters. For older children, the dose of the drug can be increased to 10-15 ml, depending on the duration of the procedure and the course of the disease.

Adding other drugs

In addition to the procedures with only saline, children are often prescribed other therapeutic inhalations. In this case, saline is used for dilution of other therapeutic drugs.

In combination with saline for nebulizer inhalation use:

  1. Bronchodilators (Atrovent, Berodual, Berotek and others) - their purpose is shown in bronchial asthma and other diseases in which there is a bronchospasm.
  2. Mucolytics (ACC injection, Ambrobene, Mukaltin, Lasolvan and others) - appointed by coughing in order to make it productive and facilitate expectoration of sputum.
  3. Antiseptics (Miramistin, Chlorophyllipt, Dioxidin, Furacilin) - recommended for cleansing mucous membranes.
  4. Antibiotics (Gentamicin, Fluimucil) - shown for bacterial lesions of the respiratory tract.
  5. Antitussive drugs (Tussamag, Pertussin) - help to get rid of unproductive cough.
  6. Anti-inflammatory drugs (Pulmicort, Kromoheksal, Rotokan and others) - shown to reduce the swelling of the mucous membrane and the treatment of inflammation, especially of an allergic nature.
