Dr. Komarovsky on how to make a rehydron for children at home

Content

With vomitlong diarrhea, especially if the infection is accompanied by high fever, the child has a very dangerous prospect - dehydration may begin. Therefore, Dr. Komarovsky every time talking about such conditions, emphasizes the need to use oral rehydration agents such as "Regidron"," Humana Electrolyte ", etc. They allow you to quickly restore the water-salt balance in the body of a baby, and thereby avoid the serious effects of dehydration.

But not always in an emergency there is an opportunity to visit a pharmacy or it is impossible to make a supply of such medicines in a first-aid kit home. Then you can prepare the solution with your own hands, and in terms of properties, it will not in the least yield to the pharmacy drug. About how to do this, and how to properly apply the resulting solution, tells the pediatrician Evgeny Komarovsky.

About rehydration products

Means of oral rehydration Yevgeny Komarovsky calls the most important in the family first aid kit sane parents. Since the overwhelming number of children's ailments are infectious in nature, pathological fluid loss by the child’s body is not uncommon. AND with intestinal infections, and in viral diseases that are accompanied by high fever, intoxication, vomiting or diarrhea, and in food poisoning - rehydration tools will be the main treatment of the baby.

They are a mixture of salts, which when dissolved with ordinary boiled water gives a liquid, while drinking, not only compensating for the loss of water. It also makes it possible to restore the shortage of lost with vomit masses, frequent loose stools, and then with salts and minerals, which are very important for the normal functioning of all organs and systems.

The most well-known in Russia means of oral rehydration:

  • «Regidron»;
  • Hydrovit;
  • "Marathon";
  • "Normogidron";
  • Orasan;
  • Reosolan;
  • "Humana Electrolyte".

During the illness, the child eats less, and this is quite natural, but it is with food that young children receive a large amount of liquid, as they eat cereals, soups, kefir. Lack of appetite, although physiologically determined, has an additional effect on the dehydration process.

The method in which treatment is aimed at replenishing fluid and salt balance is called rehydration therapy. If necessary, the child can be introduced into the body in two ways:

  • through the mouth, if he drinks, absorbs and removes the solution;
  • intravenously - through a dropper, if he refuses to drink or vomits so often that all that is drunk immediately goes outside.

The second method is not practiced at home, it is the task of the ambulance doctors and specialists of infectious hospitals.

In most cases, parents are perfectly able to cope with the problem by the first method - oral. If there are ready-made pharmaceutical bags "Rehydron"Or another drug from the list above, it is enough to dilute them with the right amount of water, as it is written on the package. The drug is not a prescription and is available to all comers.

If there are no ready-made sachets for some reason, and there is no possibility to get them in the next half hour, then you can prepare the solution yourself. No special ingredients, which would not be in the kitchen of any hostess, it is not included.

Recipe at home

The World Health Organization considers it right if in a solution for drinking during intoxication with a volume of 1 liter of water it will be:

  • sodium chloride (3.5 g);
  • sodium bicarbonate (2.5 g);
  • potassium chloride (1.5 g);
  • glucose (20 g).

When treating children for severe intestinal infections accompanied by severe diarrhea or vomiting, it is recommended to add trisodium citrate in an amount of 2.9 grams instead of sodium bicarbonate, and reduce the salt content (sodium chloride) to 2.6 grams.

Home cooking has no relation to the chemical laboratory, and therefore Komarovsky cites the above recommendations solely for general familiarization with the composition of the rehydration solution. At home, the preparation of the tool will look like this:

  • 1 liter of boiled warm water;
  • table salt (you can take iodized, but better - the most common) - 3 grams (this is 1 tsp without top);
  • sugar 18 grams (or sucrose for those who do not tolerate sugar in the same amount). This is a little less than a tablespoon.

This recipe is approved by the World Health Organization as fully complying with the requirements for the preparation with rehydration properties.

How to apply?

The prepared solution must be thoroughly mixed until all the crystals and salt and sugar are completely dissolved in water. The taste of the mixture is not the most pleasant, and therefore expect that the child will begin to drink it with enthusiasm, you should not, says Yevgeny Komarovsky.

Give the resulting solution should be in the form of heat. It is desirable that the temperature of the liquid was equal to the temperature of the baby's body - if this condition is met, the liquid will be absorbed and absorbed faster.

There is no definite dosage, but there is an important rule: the more the child drinks, the better. Therefore, you need to water as much as possible and more often. If there are no symptoms of dehydration, it is enough to drink a prepared liter of solution for a child for three to four hours.

If there are alarming symptoms of dehydration, the dosage should be increased. These features include:

  • dry skin, crying without tears, dry tongue, a feeling of constant thirst in the baby;
  • rare urination (in three hours he never gets away from “little need”);
  • urine has a bright saturated color, and sometimes a strong odor;
  • antipyretic drugs do not give any pronounced effect;
  • sharpening facial features, the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

If the vomiting is very intense, and you cannot get the baby drunk in a normal way, you need to drip it from a disposable syringe without a needle, baby drinker, a teaspoon - whatever you like, if only he drank. Even if such a small amount is not absorbed, you should call an ambulance so that the child can undergo intravenous rehydration. It’s not too long to store the homemade solution: if not all the diluted amounts are drunk in 3-4 hours, it is advisable to prepare a new batch.

Dr. Komarovsky will tell you more about the dehydration of the child’s body and how to prepare the rehydron solution at home, in the next video.
