A charitable organization has begun to rescue children sold into slavery in Ghana

Members of the charitable organization PACODEP have begun a large-scale rescue of children, whom their own parents sold into slavery in Ghana. This is reported by CNN Africa.

According to public figures, on Lake Volta in the central part of Ghana are working more than 20 thousand little slaves. All their needy parents sold into slavery for the price of a cow, the cost of one child reaches 250 US dollars.

Most children are under 10 years old.

Basically, the money raised from the sale of a child is enough for poor families to buy a cow, which makes it possible to feed the remaining family members.

It is noteworthy that many of the little slaves were already released by the benefactors - they were fattened, treated and returned to their parents, but moms and dads, on occasion sold them into slavery again local fishermen.

Slave children are fishing, unraveling fishing nets, cleaning and harvesting fish. Such workers are considered very profitable acquisitions - they require less food, and food riots among children are easily suppressed by adult warders.

The Government of Ghana is well aware of the use of slave child labor, but officials do not take any measures.

Now, representatives of the charity PACODEP have officially announced that will no longer return to the families of children whom they will be able to save from slavery. They will look for an opportunity to provide them with a roof over their heads and the right to attend school.
