We go to the museum: State Duma deputies offered to make visiting museums for children free

Museums and exhibitions may lose in revenue, but gain new visitors.

To let children under the age of 18 are free in all museums of Russia suggested the deputies of the State Duma. They amended the relevant law on culture.

In our country, according to rough estimates, there are about 5 thousand museums. The average price of a ticket to the museum in 2018 is 100-200 rubles.

In most regions of Russia at the local level, deputies have passed laws that allow children visit museums and exhibitions absolutely free once a month.

But in the State Duma they considered that these measures are clearly not enoughin order to provide children with access to cultural values, which the Constitution of the Russian Federation implies.

People's representatives carefully studied the experience of other countries - in the UK, for example, state museums are completely free all year round and on any given day for minors.

Schoolchildren from Moscow were the first to try the innovation; for them, visits to all museums have already been made free, and the number of trips to the museum is unlimited.

Now it’s the turn for other regions where until the end of the year, visiting museums funded from the state treasury should be equally accessible to all children and adolescents.

Students will also be eligible for free cultural programs, provided that they are under 18 years of age.
