Equal opportunities: disabled children will be able to apply to several universities

Deputies of the State Duma of Russia approved a law that allows disabled children to submit documents at the same time in several universities of the country.

Normative acts that existed until today did not at all give any guarantees of enrollment of a disabled child who successfully passed the exams.

Children with disabilities before the adoption of the law could count on out-of-competition admission to the university only within a certain (usually very small) quota.

If it turned out to be exhausted, a competition was held between such applicants. And not everyone who successfully passed all the tests, could count on enrollment.

The law, which successfully passed the final third deputy reading and was adopted by a majority of votes, permits children with disabilities of the first and second groups, children with disabilities and those who have become disabled as a result of a military injury or illness acquired during military service, to use non-competitive admission to budget places within the quota for successful exams when submitting a package of documents immediately to five higher education institutions.

The new rule takes effect already from this year. And in the near future it is planned that people with disabilities will enroll in universities that require additional specialized examinations, not based on the results of the USE, but on the results of these entrance tests.
