Orphaned children received the right to study for free at preparatory courses in universities

The Federal Law “On Education” has been amended. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that corrects the document and entitles orphans and children who are left without parental care to study for free at the preparatory courses in their chosen universities simultaneously with education in the graduating class of the school.

Preparatory courses in higher educational institutions of Russia are mostly paid, and orphaned children could not previously afford to attend them.

When enrolling in higher education institutions in Russia, such children have certain benefits - their credited to the budget within the established quota, provided that they successfully pass the entrance test. And with that, and with another, problems often arise: there are few quotas, and in prestigious universities - only a few. Entrance tests for the university program orphan students often fail, because they were not familiar with this program before.

The amendment will provide an opportunity to better prepare for admission this year.

State Duma deputies approved an amendment to the Federal Law in mid-December 2018. The Federation Council approved it before the new year. Now a convincing point has been put: after the document is signed by the head of state, it enters into force. This means that orphans and children left without parental care, after the New Year holidays, can go to the university they are interested in, find out the number of places by quotas and enroll in preparatory courses.
