Children in Russia are going to ban registration in social networks

State Duma deputies have begun to develop a draft law, which prohibits Russian children from registering on social networks up to the age of 14.

The author of the initiative was the well-known parliamentarian Vitaly Milonov. He emphasizes that registration in social networks should be on the basis of passport data. And while the child does not have a passport, he simply will not be able to create his own account in popular social networks.

According to experts, among children under 16 years old the most popular today is Instagram. Next come Facebook and VKontakte.

Milonov had previously submitted to the State Duma several draft laws on limiting the now unlimited Internet opportunities for children. So, he suggested making registration in social networks for minors possible only with the written permission of the parents and on their passports.

Milonov suggested that the owners of social networks be mercilessly fined for ignoring the age of users, the sums of fines are millions. While none of the bills received support, some are still pending.

After a student of Kerch Polytechnic College staged a massacre on October 17 and detonated a bomb from his school, 20 people were killed, more than 50 were injured, Milonov again decided to return to this topic.

But this time the deputy decided do not leave any opportunity for teenagers to get into social networks - neither with the permission of the parents, nor on their passports. He stressed that only a strict ban would help to reverse the situation, “to get the children out of their clutches of a terrible virtuality” and return adolescents to a mentally healthy and adequate society.

The document will be submitted to the State Duma by the end of November. If it is adopted, the corresponding ban may come into force on January 1, 2019.
