If it is impossible to cure: what will the palliative care law give us?

The State Duma on the eve of the first reading approved a draft law that will regulate issues of palliative care. Today, hundreds of thousands of Russian children need it.

The document implies measures to improve the quality of life of incurably sick children, so that they can live what they have left without pain and anguish. This is not only medical assistance, but psychological support. The document identifies three types of assistance: pre-medical, medical and specialized.

The document will be the first to effectively regulate the provision of painkillers to children in need.

Parents will be able to receive potent painkillers and muscle relaxants for free, not only in the hospital or hospice, but also at home. Today, many moms and dads are forced to order effective tools through the Internet, which falls under the criminal article.

The draft law was developed on the instructions of the head of state Vladimir Putin. The president was told about the problems of families with terminally ill children by volunteers who help such babies and their mothers. The head of state noted that funds for quality palliative care in the budget of the country are available. This year more than 5 billion rubles will be allocated.

In late January, the document will be submitted for second reading. At this point, parliamentarians are waiting for feedback and amendments from experts in the field of health.

Experts say that the document will be the beginning of a new era in the care of terminally ill people. Those to whom medicine can no longer help, should die out not in cold hospital walls, but at home, close to loved ones, in an atmosphere of love and support, and the state should provide such a family with everything they need so that the patient does not suffer from unbearable pain.
