Used toys are dangerous.

Plastic toys that have faithfully served several generations of children can be hazardous to health. Scientists from Great Britain came to this conclusion after examining the composition of plastic toys that were made several decades ago.

They tested 200 plastic toys (designer elements, animal figures, cars, trains, and puzzles produced in the 1980s). Such ancient children's entertainment for the experiment was taken in some English boarding schools. Also, the toys were provided by ordinary families, in which it is not customary to throw out the cubes and the designer. They included 9 substances that belong to the category of prohibited and dangerous. Their concentration exceeded the permissible European standards.

Experts are sure that it is quite difficult to estimate now all the risk that such toys carry in themselves. “Lego”, produced in the 70-80s of the last century, according to the researchers, are not the most successful, because then they were not tested for environmental safety. It’s not safe to pass them now..

The study itself was conducted by X-ray, laboratory and spectral methods. It showed:

  • the toys were the size that allowed the child to chew them;
  • in 95% of the samples, an excess of barium, antimony, bromine, cadmium, chromium, lead and selenium was detected;
  • Plastic red, black and yellow colors was the most harmful because of the used dyes, which today are no longer used in the production of children's goods.

Used toys are often distributed on the Internet, handed down from generation to generation within the same family, and donated to social institutions. They cannot be recycled today.

Almost all detected substances are carcinogens. They are able to cause total destructive processes in the children's body. Scientists urge to get rid of them.
