Astronauts appreciated the possibility of a child being born in space

The next crew of a long expedition, which is preparing to fly to the International Space Station, spoke out about the prospect of the birth of a baby in space. Recall, the Dutch company SpaceLife Origins plans to send a pregnant woman into space, who will give birth to the first person of extraterrestrial origin by birth. This event is scheduled for 2024.

This information is now being discussed at the most varied levels: scientists argue about the consequences for a baby that birth in weightlessness can turn into, experts in the field of medicine and biology doubt the ethics of the experiment as a whole.

The cosmonaut of the State Corporation for Space Activity of Russia Oleg Kononenko and NASA astronaut Ann McClain, who are to fly to the ISS today, got acquainted with the details of the Dutch project and said that experiment is very dangerous for a woman. Kononenko recalled that earlier similar experiments were conducted in space, however, with mice, birds, monkeys. Each time, without exception, the experiments ended in failure.

Ann Maclaine noted that the ISS is a good platform for the birth of a child and the development of a new life, but so far it is only about growing new cells in the conditions of the International Space Station. The birth of a child in space while ahead of time, and the risks are too high that everything will end tragically.

However, the Dutch company does not intend to abandon its plans and has already announced the search for female volunteers.

His goal SpaceLife Origin puts no less colonization of other planets. And the first step towards this should be the birth of a new generation of people who are adapted to cosmic conditions from birth.

SpaceLife Origins CEO Kes Mulder said that their mission begins in 2020, that is, in a year. The first program called “The Ark” is aimed at creating conditions for the long-term preservation of the sex cells of men and women in space. The second program will be launched in 2021, it will deal with the possibility of fertilization in space. And the final mission will include the birth of a child in extraterrestrial conditions.

It was previously believed that conception in conditions of weightlessness and artificial gravity is quite problematic, if not impossible.

SpaceLife Origin has strict requirements for women volunteers: the reproductive age, the absence of children on Earth, the ideal state of health, and psychological readiness for childbirth at an altitude of 400,000 meters above the surface of the home planet.

Despite the fantastic nature and danger of projects, today the company received hundreds of applications from womenwho want to go down in history and become famous as the first astronauts in labor.
