Russian Ministry of Health supported the WHO resolution to reduce the number of cesarean sections

Russian doctors supported the resolution of the World Health Organization about the need to reduce the number of operative delivery.

WHO recently presented horrendous statistics: over the past 15 years in some countries, the national caesarean sections among the total number of births was almost 50%. In Russia, the share of operative labor is almost 25%. This means that every fourth baby is not born as a result of natural childbirth, but by surgical intervention.

In this regard, WHO drafted a resolution and asked countries to support it. The document speaks of the urgent need to reduce the number of cesarean sections.

The Russian Ministry of Health fully agreed with this, but stressed that doctors should not artificially push for a decline. It is impossible to ignore the indications for surgery for the sake of reducing statistics. Everything should be done in the interests of the mother and child..

This means that the operation will be carried out only according to indications. The so-called elective caesarean section (of a woman who has the desire to do without health indications), which some paid private medical centers and clinics practice today, is not approved. Ministry of Health will consider the issue the introduction of a formal ban on such operations, for a cesarean without testimony on a paid basis, the clinic may lose its license.

In the 80s of the last century, the share of caesarean sections in the USSR was no more than 3% of the total number of births, and in the 90s - no more than 10%.

It is precisely to 10% that WHO proposes to return again.

The Ministry of Health of Russia emphasizes that the state of health of modern women is increasingly giving grounds for their planned cesarean section. Women at a young age have serious illnesses, chronic illnesses, and therefore doctors sometimes have no choice.
