The Ministry of Health of Russia forbade doctors to take money from pregnant women for determining the sex of the child

Ministry of Health of Russia banned to take money from expectant mothers for determining the sex of the child by ultrasound. The relevant service to medical institutions should be excluded from the register of paid medical services.

The reason was the numerous complaints that came from residents of different regions - ultrasound during pregnancy is done several times in antenatal clinics for free, but for a woman to find out what child is waiting for the child, you have to pay extra - from 300 to 800 rubles (depending from the region).

The Ministry of Health considered that the practice was wrong, and pregnant women should receive free medical care in full.

Also It is forbidden to charge a separate fee for the presence of a husband or parents at the ultrasound examination (some medical institutions took money for this).

The women’s complaints were previously sent to the regional and regional Ministries of Health, but a universal answer always comes from there - the sex of the child has no predictive value, and therefore is not included in the compulsory examination, the fee is taken legally.

Now for all antenatal clinics, perinatal centers a single requirement will be established - not to take money for the sex of the child. The order of the Ministry of Health of Russia does not apply to private clinics.
