Not a child's sight: in Russia it was proposed to ban children from visiting circuses

Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region suggested that children under 18 years of age should not attend circuses. They sent their appeal to the country’s Minister of Culture, Vladimir Medinsky.

Initiative authors argue that Worldwide, there is a tendency to form a more humane attitude towards animals., both domestic and wild, who participate in public circus performances.

The Spaniards stepped over a centuries-old tradition and began to abandon the bullfighting, in which the bulls often die in front of the audience. And the Egyptians have ceased to organize a demonstrative hunt for crocodiles, although such spectacles brought them a lot of money from viewers, tourists.

Leningrad deputies noted that in Russia animals continue to be subjected to cruel treatment - training.

Observing the training of wild animals can adversely affect the psyche of children, the lawmakers said.

In their letter, they appealed to Minister Vladimir Medinsky with a request to initiate a ban on circus visits by minor children, and posters and advertising submissions should be marked 18+.

At the end of last year, Vladimir Putin signed the law on the responsible handling of animals. This document prohibits throwing animals on the street, killing them, forcing them to participate in battles and working in contact zoos. According to Leningrad people's choices, animals in circuses should also protect this law.
