Dangerous medicine: Erespal and its analogues are officially banned in Russia

Roszdravnadzor officially ordered the withdrawal of the drug Erespal, which is popular in the treatment of children's cough, since examination and research showed that a remedy that Russian pediatricians so often recommended to children causes a heart rhythm disorder. Together with “Erespal” from the sale in pharmacies withdraw all drugs based on the active substance fenspiride.

The initiative to abandon the drug belongs to the French pharmacological company Servier Laboratory, which produced a cough medicine with a bronchodilator effect. Experts of the company are sure that the product is not safe for young patients and adults.

It is noteworthy that an undesirable side effect on the heart during clinical trials was not initially detected, and only now the experts' fears were confirmed by large-scale international safety tests.

Fenspirid as the main active substance received a registration certificate in 1973. But some properties of the substance remained unknown until today.

On the counters of Russian pharmacies now should not be, and pediatricians should not prescribe such cough remedies based on this substance, as “Erespal”, “Epispal”, “Thespalen”, “Erispirus”, “Fenspiridin”, “Epistat”, “Codestin”, “Eladon”. Prohibited all forms of drugs - and pills, and syrups.

The resolution of Roszdravnadzor has been published and the removal of drugs from pharmacological warehouses continues, despite the fact that Erespal in our country is included in the list of essential medicines. From the list in the coming days, the tool will be excluded.

Anyone who is currently prescribed by a doctor or on his own initiative, gives the child "Erespal" or other means based on fenspiride, recommended on the manufacturer’s website stop taking without finishing the course of treatment. For the appointment of another tool, more secure, you should contact your doctor.

Parents who have often treated children with such drugs are advised to visit the pediatric cardiologist and make an ECG.
