Dad on maternity leave: the State Duma is preparing a bill on maternity leave for men

In the State Duma of Russia are preparing a bill that allow men to take a one-time maternity leave at birth. Implied short, ten-day leave with full pay for the entire period.

The authors of the bill were the deputies from the Liberal Democratic Party. The text of the bill has already been sent to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation to Minister Maxim Topilin for preliminary approval of key issues.

Changes are supposed to be made in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

Today he protects the rights of working mothers, but does not take into account the interests of men who became fathers. The birth of a child for a man is not a reason for a temporary break in work with the preservation of wages, although the new father’s concerns are enough, the authors of the bill consider. Therefore, men are forced to take time off, write an application for leave at their own expense to help his wife with discharge and in caring for a newborn.

The current current version of the legislation provides for men who have become fathers, only up to five days of vacation at their own expense without pay for these days.

In Europe, the law recently enshrined the right of men to paid leave on the occasion of the birth of a baby.
