Pride and Prejudice: Why do parents of sick children refuse to help?

A dramatic story has been played out in the Kuban, which has stirred up the parental community not only of the Krasnodar Territory, but of the whole of Russia.

Volunteers managed to collect 250 thousand rubles for the operation to a disabled boy in a metropolitan clinic, but his mother flatly refused help.

A year ago, nine-year-old Danila was hit by a car. The boy survived, but became disabled - he was completely paralyzed. The family could not find a few hundred rubles for an ambulance that would have delivered the boy to Moscow. Connected volunteers. And when the necessary amount was collected, the operation fell through - the mother suddenly refused to take her son for treatment.

The woman explained her decision by the fact that she completely trusts the local doctors and does not see the need for the intervention of metropolitan specialists. Volunteers of the woman accused of wanting to cash in on her grief.

Instead of just being offended and leaving, the volunteers decided to conduct their own investigation of such a strange act, because the woman had previously asked for help.

And their search revealed a strange fact: the local administration officials were very persistent in communicating with the child’s mother about something. It is assumed that they pressured her, urging to abandon the trip and thus not to discredit the local Ministry of Health.

Officials categorically deny the facts of pressure and argue that the refusal is related to another problem - the mother did not initially want to treat the child, after all, if he ceases to be disabled, an unemployed woman, her elderly mother and other relatives will lose their monthly funds - disability pensions, help from volunteers, as well as voluntary payments from the perpetrator of the accident.

Whatever the true reasons for actions in adults, the baby remains without the necessary help and rehabilitation.

And this case is not the only one. Similar stories took place in the Moscow region, in Ryazan, in Novosibirsk.

Representatives of the All-Russian Parents' Council intend to submit this issue for discussion to the children's ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova. They believe that for the refusal of parents to treat a disabled child must be brought to criminal liability.
