Scientists told how to give birth to a healthy baby

A group of reproductive scientists from Greece published the results of their many years of research. It was a study of the likelihood of increasing the chances of bearing and giving birth to a healthy and strong baby. Experts have concluded that in order for a child to be healthy, a pregnant woman should follow only one type of diet - the Mediterranean.

The journal Human Reproduction, in the pages of which the results of Greek studies appeared, notes that earlier this same group of scientists had revealed a direct relationship between their native Mediterranean diet and the reproductive health of men.

Now the data have been supplemented with fairly convincing figures: 224 women agreed to take part in a Greek experiment at the preparatory stage for IVF. For various reasons, they could not get pregnant on their own. Each participant in the experience completed detailed questionnaires from several sheets in which she indicated which foods she had most often eaten in recent months.

As a result, scientists were able to put together three large groups of women:

  • some ate close to the requirements of the Mediterranean diet;
  • others regularly violated them;
  • third "retreated" from the rules of this diet completely.

Among the latter group, the probability of successful conception was reduced by 15%, and in the first group not only most of the IVF procedures were successful, but the number of children born with high Apgar scores was 2.7 times higher than in other groups.

Recall that the Mediterranean cuisine is based on fruits, cheeses, vegetables, nuts, fish and olive oil, as well as a large amount of greens, seafood and milk.
