Russian police offered to fingerprint children from 6 years

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia proposed to adopt an amendment to the decree on voluntary fingerprinting in the country.

In particular, it is proposed to allow fingerprinting children who are already 6 years old.

This process will not require any special costs and increase the staff of the police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs assured. Cope with the increased workload will be able to work now employees.

The database of children's fingerprints can be useful in several areas of work of law enforcement officers - it will facilitate the search and identification of missing and escaped children and adolescents, as well as come to the aid of juvenile affairs inspectors in investigating crimes and offenses committed by children.

It is planned that the procedure will be voluntary.

The prints will be removed from Russian children, as well as from children who do not have Russian citizenship at the time of applying for any public service, for example, obtaining a passport or residence permit.

Unique skin pattern on the fingertips does not change throughout a person's life and is strictly individual, peculiar to only one person on the planet.

Therefore, the grown-up child will no longer have to go through the procedure of fingerprinting again - even in adulthood, the prints will be easily identified from the old “children's” databases.

Till June 1 should be completed public discussion of the project. If adopted, the document will take effect already this year.
