Russian students will be taught programming from primary school

Russian schoolchildren will learn the basics of programming from the very elementary grades. This was stated in the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation. Programming languages and code creation decided to include in the course of mathematics for students of grades 1-4.

Previously, programming began to be studied only in the fifth grade in the framework of a separate subject, computer science.

The Ministry of Education considered that the fifth grade is too late, because children live in the age of computers, and in the elementary school they should receive the appropriate knowledge. Moreover, mastering programming will help children develop logic, thinking, concentration and attention, and this is very useful for mastering any school subject.

Now the question of introducing programming for first-graders is at the stage of approval of the federal standard and curriculum. It is expected that all bureaucratic nuances will be settled already this year, and then the youngest students will start learning programming from 2020-21 school year.

Experts from the Ministry of Education explained that the new concept of primary education would involve teaching first-grade children such necessary things today as the ability to type text on a computer, search for necessary information on the Internet, work with electronic media and data, and create animation.

Today, every family has a computer, and homework for the baby will not be very difficult. But while there are certain problems with the preparation of teachers - not all primary school teachers, by virtue of their age, are ready to meet the requirements of modernity and the spirit of the times, not everyone is adequately competent to teach students about computer literacy. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare teachers for the time left before the innovation, to improve their qualifications, and if necessary, to organize special training for them.

It is also planned to take into account the requirements of physicians: the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting the time that children should spend at the computer monitor 45 minutes.
