Scientists: vapor from electronic cigarettes is dangerous for children

American scientists conducted a series of experiments aimed at identifying the true effect of steam from electronic cigarettes on children's health. A study found that inhaling such a vapor increases the chance of an asthma attack in children with respiratory diseases.

Children who suffer from respiratory ailments and at the same time become passive smokers of the so-called wipes are 27% more likely to suffer from asthmatic attacks than their peers who are not exposed to steam from an electronic cigarette.

The head of the research team, Professor Jennifer Bailey, noted that parents should not, in any case, smoke electronic cigarettes in the presence of children, and it is also important not to allow other adults to do this.

The opinion that steam from wipes cannot hurt is wrong. According to Bailey, it contains almost the same chemical composition as the smoke of regular cigarettes.

As part of the study, Professor Bailey and her colleagues studied data from a 2016 youth survey. The survey was conducted in Florida. It was attended by almost 34 thousand high school students and 36 thousand children enrolled in middle classes. The average age of respondents is 11-17 years.

About 12,000 children admitted that they sometimes suffer from asthma attacks. Almost 33% of them noted that they regularly inhale vapor from an electronic cigarette, which is used by their parents or other adult relatives.

In Russia, the issue of banning wipes and equating them to ordinary smoking with all the ensuing prohibitions and restrictions has been discussed for a long time. Narcologists have repeatedly called for the abandonment of electronic cigarettes, citing the fact that they do not allow to get rid of harmful addiction, do not contribute to quit smoking.
