"Baby boxes" in the law: the installation of "windows of life" is planned to be officially allowed in the regions of Russia

State Duma deputies have begun to consider amendments to two federal laws, which allow regions of the country to create "baby boxes" - places where you can leave a child anonymously, without putting his life in danger.

According to the bill, "windows of life" in each region should be equipped with regional budgets. exclusively on the territory of state and municipal hospitalsable to assist newborns, including premature babies.

Such health care facilities mainly include maternity hospitals, perinatal centers, regional and regional children's hospitals with intensive care units for young children and neonatal therapy departments.

In fact, such “boxes” in which anyone can leave an unwanted child already exist in some regions, but they are necessary have no legal basis.

The meaning of the work of the "windows of life" is that a mother who for some reason does not need a baby can anonymously put it in a special receiver, without making out an official refusal.

After closing the box outside, the ventilation and temperature control systems will turn on, and in the hospital receiver a special beep sounds. Doctors will take the child away and give him the necessary help.

Opponents of the bill claim that the permission to operate "baby boxes" will increase the number of foundlings, will undermine the moral foundations in society.

Supporters say the mother who decided to get rid of the baby, will do it anyway, only the "window of life" will give the baby a chance to survive, and the garbage can with trash containers, where most often and throw up newborns, cannot give such a chance.

The bill also proposed to replace the word "children" with the word "newborns". Children in Russia are all who are under 18 years of age. The baby boxing law should clearly state that only babies are involved. from birth to 4 weeks.

Last summer, the State Duma rejected the bill. However, the parliamentarians rejected another bill that was supposed to ban the organization of the "windows of life".

Today in Russia, the specialized "windows of life" are mainly organized by social activists. These "boxes" are in 12 regions. In total, there are 20 "baby boxes" in the country. Of these, 18 were installed in medical institutions, and 2 were attached to Orthodox churches.
