Content

Women who have recently become mothers are very kind to their diet. The set of substances that they "eat", penetrates into breast milk and may adversely affect the condition of the newborn. Therefore, the question of whether nursing mothers can eat sea kale, often arises, as this product is among the actively affecting the body. In this article we will try to answer it.

About kelp

Laminaria scientists call laminaria. Under the general name lies a large number of species of brown algae, which have taken their rightful place in cooking, in medicine, in cosmetology. Sea kale grows at a certain depth near the shores of the Japanese, Barents, Kartsev and Okhotsk seas.

During a storm, algae in large quantities are thrown to the shore, where they are collected by the procurers. The composition of the product has no analogues. Laminaria is rich in iodine, necessary for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland and metabolic processes.

They contain rather high concentrations of ash, iron and calcium, magnesium, sodium, as well as vitamin A, vitamins of group B, vitamins PP and C.

In addition to all this, kelp has the unique ability to absorb a large number of different liquids, increasing its volume several times. This property is used in obstetrics - sticks of dried kelp are introduced into the cervix before childbirth for better disclosure. The same property normalizes the work of the intestines in the use of kelp in food.

Breast-fed sea kale is one of the few products allowed for maternal nutrition as soon as possible after the baby is born.

Benefit with HB

After giving birth, the mother of a newborn has to face a number of delicate difficulties, among which are constipation. It is difficult and scary to push, but to prevent intestinal overflow with fecal masses, so as not to hinder the successful recovery of the uterus and the preservation of good health. Seaweed salad will help with the prevention of constipation. Dietary algae fibers swell in the intestines and cause stimulation of the mucous membranes, which eliminates bloating and the formation of intestinal gases, improves motility and prevents constipation - the intestines work like a clock.

Iodine helps to improve the endocrine background, and also takes care of the condition of the blood vessels. Lecithin in the composition of the product helps to eliminate toxins, which is very important when breastfeeding.

Childbirth is always associated with blood loss, iron helps to fill the lack of hemoglobin, which in kelp contains quite a lot. In ancient China, doctors offered seaweed to women who gave birth to improve the quality and increase the amount of breast milk. Increasing the amount of milk using kelp is a rather dubious event, but its quality is definitely getting better.

The benefits of breastfeeding from the use of seaweed can be the most versatile:

  • magnesium normalizes the state of the nervous system;
  • Vitamin A improves brain function, has a positive effect on skin condition, and also improves memory and vision;
  • irreplaceable amino acids in seaweed improves intracellular protein synthesis;
  • Calcium allows you to restore balance in the body, to fill the deficiency of this element, which is characteristic of all women after childbirth, thereby improving the appearance and health of teeth, nails and hair.

In children, sea kale in my mother's diet usually does not cause an allergic reaction. Of course, provided that the woman will not violate the recommendations on the daily amount of the product. A nursing mother can eat no more than 100 grams of sea kale per day. Excessive use of it can lead to an overdose of iodine, as well as adversely affect the well-being of the baby.

Who is not recommended?

Sea cabbage during lactation is not recommended to eat nursing mothers who themselves are allergic to seafood. Even if such an allergy was in history, but has not manifested itself in recent years, it is better not to risk it and not to provoke immunity weakened by childbirth. The same prohibition applies to women who have severe allergies to iodine.

The product becomes undesirable for young mothers with hemorrhoids that have become acute after delivery - before relieving the symptoms of this unpleasant disease, it is better not to use a product that irritates the intestinal walls. When exacerbation of gastritis, pancreatitis also do not eat kelp. Chronic kidney disease is another contraindication for eating seaweed during breastfeeding. When thyroid gland malfunctions, excessive synthesis of thyroid-stimulating hormones, iodine-rich sea kale can be dangerous for a woman’s health.

And finally absolutely any nursing mother is contraindicated sea kale, if she has an incomprehensible or dangerous origin. Laminaria absorbs almost all harmful substances that come in contact with liquid media. Therefore, seaweed, in addition to minerals and vitamins, may contain a lot of chemicals or radioactive substances, if the cabbage was collected in places with unfavorable environmental conditions, in places where oil products are bottled and radiation emissions. Therefore, when choosing a product, it is important to take care to establish the place of its collection.

The timing of entry into the diet

Do not eat sea kale immediately after birth. The fact is that in the first three months of life, the baby’s digestive tract undergoes a kind of “debugging”, and due to the lack of a wide variety of enzymes in the child’s body, it is simply not ready to take substances from the kelp.

When a child is three months old, a woman can make adjustments to her diet and add this product if she likes it. You need to start with small portions - no more than 30 grams of product per day. If the child does not show any negative reaction to the new mother's dish, then you can gradually increase the portion of seaweed to 50 grams, and then to 100 grams per day.

In what form is it?

A woman may buy cabbage in Russia in three forms. Frozen algae and dried are considered optimal for lactating, because they do not contain chemicals and food additives. Frozen product must first be removed from the freezer, thawed and rinsed thoroughly with water. Dried kelps pour clean water and insist for at least 12-14 hours, then washed and cooked.

Cabbage can be used for salad, to supplement the side dish, as a component for fish soup.

Ready-made seaweed salads contain a lot of vinegar, sugar and preservatives. Pickled sea kale contains preservatives, and sometimes even flavor enhancers, and therefore in such cases it is better not to eat the product to a nursing woman. Preservatives, marinade, vinegar spoil the taste of breast milk, the baby does not like them, besides, such a set of substances is unsafe for his health.

How to choose

In order not to be mistaken in choosing a useful and tasty product, you need to remember that the place of collection and preparation of the product is always indicated in the quality certificate for the product.Feel free to ask it from the seller in the store or on the market. If the place of gathering is indicated Japan or the shores of the Barents Sea, you should not buy kelp. The Japanese coast has not yet recovered from the terrible accident at the Fukushima-1 NPP, and therefore the content of radioactive substances in sea kale may be exceeded. The Barents Sea is heavily polluted, doctors and environmentalists also do not recommend eating algae from there.

The best choice can be considered as the Far East kelp and sea kale, harvested in China. Pay attention to the packaging, it should be transparent, algae should be visible through it. Read the composition - it should not contain additives E 220 and E 621. Cabbage color should be natural, without yellow spots. It should not be chopped too large or too small.

At home, test for authenticity and naturalness. Add some potato starch to the cabbage. If the product turns blue, then it is natural. If the color does not change, in front of you - not real sea kale, but counterfeit, which when breastfeeding is better not to eat.
