"Piperazin" for children: instructions for use

Content

Infection with worms, called helminthiasis, occurs quite often in children, as babies explore the world not only with their hands, eyes, ears, but also with their teeth and tongue, in other words, they pull everything in their mouths. Therefore, parents should not be surprised at such a diagnosis and curse themselves; you just need to know how to fight this disease correctly.

In the treatment of helminth infections, special medications are used that can act primarily on worms. One of these tools is Piperazine, the active substance of which is able to paralyze nematodes - parasitic roundworms. As a result of this action, the worms are immobilized.

Release form and composition

"Piperazin" is produced by several manufacturers, may be in the form of tablets, which are usually packaged in paper contour packs of 10 pieces. The main component of this tool is called piperazine adipate, so you can find on sale a similar medicine, called so.

The tablets themselves are round, white, at risk for halving. The drug is presented in pharmacies in two dosages - 200 mg or 500 mg of the active compound in one tablet. Of the excipients in "Piperazine" there are potato or corn starch and gelatin, as well as calcium stearate and talc.

For children, a more suitable form is a 5 percent suspension. But in Russia, the finished product of this type is not for sale.

Appointment and contraindications

"Piperazin" may be administered to patients with ascariasis, which was confirmed by tests. In addition, such a drug is prescribed for the treatment of enterobiosis. In this case, helminthiasis tablets are also used only after pinworms have been found in tests or when examining a patient. Treatment with Piperazine is possible at any age. This medicine can be used even in children up to one year, if the tests have confirmed helminthiasis, and the doctor has prescribed a suitable dosage for age.

"Piperazin" is not used for hypersensitivity to its components, as well as for organic pathologies of the brain. If a child has liver disease, any neurological disease, or renal impairment, taking pills requires caution.

Side effects

During treatment, various negative symptoms may occur, such as abdominal pain, muscle weakness, nausea, allergic rash, tremors or headaches. For such ailments, you should consult with your doctor about the continuation of the reception or replacement of "Piperazin" analogue.

Instructions for use

Tablets are recommended to be taken twice a day. Usually, the medicine is given one hour before meals, and if the patient has already eaten, the remedy can be drunk 30-60 minutes later.

Dosage per dose depends on age:

  • children of the first year of life give 200 mg (one tablet at this dosage);
  • children aged two to three years - 300 mg (1.5 tablets with a dosage of 200 mg);
  • four- and five-year-old patients - for the whole tablet containing 500 mg;
  • at 6-8 years of age - 750 mg (1.5 tablets with a dosage of 500 mg);
  • children aged 9 to 12 years - 1000 mg (two tablets of 500 mg);
  • from the age of 13 - 1500 mg per dose.

In these doses, the medicine is taken for ascariasis for two days, and if the child has pinworms, then Piperazine is prescribed in 5-day courses with interruptions of 7 days (from 1 to 3 courses).

For kids who can not drink the pill whole, it is permissible to grind themand then dilute the powder with a small amount of water and give in such a form to swallow from the spoon.

In addition, it is recommended at least once during the course of treatment after taking the drug to make the child an enema, since the medicine only immobilizes the worms, but does not contribute to their removal from the intestines.

Terms of sale and storage

"Piperazin" is sold by prescription, as a prescription is required for taking this medication in childhood.

Store tablets at home, like many other drugs, should be at a temperature of up to +25 degrees, putting the packaging in a dry place that is not available in small children. The shelf life of the drug is usually 4 years.

Reviews

On the use of "Piperazin" there are mostly positive reviews, in which the tablets are called effective and affordable. Recently, however, this medication is increasingly being replaced with other anthelmintic drugs that do not need to be taken for several days.

In addition, many parents find the tablet form in the treatment of children uncomfortable, preferring to replace it with suspensions whenever possible.

Analogs

    Instead of "Piperazine", other anthelmintic drugs can be used.

    • «Dekaris». This drug is also represented by pills, but they have a pleasant taste and odor of apricot, so it is better to chew this remedy. The action of "Decaris" on helminths is due to Levamisole, which, like piperazine adipate, paralyzes the worms. At a dosage of 50 mg, it is prescribed from the age of three.
    • «Vermox». These tablets based on mebendazole have a rather large spectrum of action on helminths. They are used in the treatment of children older than 2 years. This medicine can be replaced by "Wormin", which is also available in tablet form.
    • Pyrantel. Unlike previous anthelmintic drugs, this medicine is represented by both tablets and suspension. At the same time, the liquid form can be given from 6 months of age when infected with ascarids, hookworms or pinworms. The analogue of this medication is the drug "Helmintox", Whose action is also due to pyrantel. Sometimes the drug is prescribed for prophylaxis.
    • Nemozol. Such a medicine containing albendazole, like Piperazine, can be administered at any age. It is produced in the form of a sweet suspension, as well as in coated tablets and tablets that need to be chewed. The drug is effective against ascaris, Giardia, Echinococcus, pinworms, Trichinella and many other parasites.
