The Russian government supported the law on the search for missing children on their phone geodata

The Russian government has reviewed and supported the bill, which will provide an opportunity to search for missing children on the geodata of their phones and tablets. The vice-speaker of the State Duma, Irina Yarovaya, became the author and initiator of the draft law promotion.

The measures proposed by the lawmakers significantly broaden the horizons of opportunities for an urgent search for missing children and teenagers.

In particular, the procedure for finding a child will be greatly simplified. To begin the search, the police will only need to receive a statement from the parents or guardians about the disappearance of a minor child.

It should immediately put a resolution to the head of the police department. Wait for court sanctions on access to geodata, as it was before, is not necessary. The police will immediately be able to try to establish the location of the child.

There is one caveat - if the SIM card in the child’s device is registered to another person, for example, a grandmother or grandfather, then the owner of the SIM card will also need written consent to access the geodata.

This item, according to experts, can slow down the search, especially if the grandmother or grandfather live far away and cannot quickly deliver their own consent to the police. It also does not say how they will look for the child if he is out of the network coverage area or if his phone is discharged and turned off.

The police will notify the court within 24 hours, and if longer searches are needed, you will still need to get a court decision for this.

Last year, more than 8,000 children were wanted in Russia., of these, almost 40% are minors.

It is assumed that the new law will enable many of them to save lives.
