Scientists told at what age it is easier for children to survive a parents divorce

Psychologists from University College London have concluded that keeping a family for the sake of children is the surest way to the unhappy existence of both adults and their children. Often parents refuse to divorce, fearing that the children will be very worried about the divorce.

A scientific study conducted in London was aimed at identification of the optimal childhood age in which the child will receive the least psychological trauma from the separation of the mother and father. The results of the work are published in the scientific publication Social Science and Medicine.

Based on data on 6,000 children aged 3 to 14 years. They were divided into age groups and given tests for psychological and mental well-being and health at the age of 3 years, at 5 years, then at 7, 11 and 14 years.

The results showed that older children suffer parental divorce painfullythat can not be said about the kids. The younger the child at the time of parting mom and dad, the higher the chances that this event will not affect him at all.

The divorce of parents is best tolerated by children under the age of 3 years and from 3 to 5 years.

Children from 7 to 14 years old have a high risk of emotional, psychological and behavioral problems, it is increased by 16%. In adolescents from 14 years of age, the risks exceed 38%.

Both boys and girls are equally affected by this kind of stress, but boys often develop deviant behavior with disobedience, protests and open aggression.

If a divorce has matured, scientists believe, it is impossible to pull with it. The older the child becomes, the more attention he will consciously pay to relationship issues, and the divorce will be perceived more painfully.
