Thirst for life: oncology did not prevent a woman from giving birth to healthy twins

36-year-old Suzy Rabacca tried to help for months. Her history was watched by the whole country. A resident of Southern California (USA) was diagnosed with “myeloid leukemia”. At that time, she was in early pregnancy.

But on the offer of doctors to have an abortion and begin an aggressive treatment for cancer the woman refused. And not mistaken.

A bone marrow donor, ideally suited in all respects, was found exactly one week before the birth. The donor is the only salvation from this form of aggressive cancer. But finding a fully matching donor is the biggest challenge.

All members of the Rabacca family were examined, but none of them were eligible to donate. There was no such person among the 30 million bone marrow donors who are listed in the worldwide database.

The desperate woman and her four-year-old daughter did not come up with anything else but to contact the Internet users through social networks with a request to help find a donor. Suddenly, the post received viral popularity. Doctors shrugged their shoulders in surprise: just two days after Suzy’s publication in the national bone marrow donor base 50 thousand new donors registered, and in three days their number reached 100 thousand peoplethat was an absolute record.

Just a week before delivery, Susie received a call from the clinic - she was informed that the most long-awaited, 100% suitable donor was found.

Preparing for an operation is a rather complicated process; they did not have time to do it before birth, and a girl and a boy, Rainey and Ryan, were born. Twins are completely healthyMom feels good too. Now, Susie’s family has five children — before the twins were born, she was a mother of three.

She is now preparing for a bone marrow transplant. It should hold until the end of December. After the operation, the chances that she will survive and lead a full life, according to the doctors, will increase markedly.

Rabacca herself is determined only for success - now she is responsible for five kids, she says, and dying in her plans does not enter.
