How to make stained glass paints at home?

Content

Stained glass paints in recent years are becoming increasingly popular: the art of drawing on glass from a rare hobby turns into a massive hobby.

To create a transparent pattern on glass or another transparent surface, special paints should be bought, which are now sold almost everywhere. But there are several recipes with which you can prepare stained paints at home.

A simple method of cooking from PVA

Making stained paints with your own hands at home is actually quite simple. The recipe includes only two ingredients: ordinary PVA glue and food coloring, sold at any grocery store. The exact proportion is not indicated anywhere, because it depends only on the intensity of the color of the dye and how bright the final result should be.

Consequently, You need to mix the ingredients by eye, but the authors indicate that more than two tablespoons of PVA for each color is not needed: to spend more at a time is quite difficult, and because of the glue in the composition, the resulting substance cannot be stored for a long time.

The finished substance turns out to be fluid, so you don’t need to immediately draw it on a vertically located window: the figure is deformed by the force of gravity. In this case, the drawings made with such paints usually decorate windows, the application procedure is just slightly different.

The fact is that the frozen picture is a kind of integral sticker that can be repeatedly glued from place to place, especially if it is made with a rather thick layer of substance.

For this reason, for greater convenience, it is recommended to first draw the masterpiece on a horizontal surface, using thin film or a file as the base.

The file is also very popular because you can put a coloring or an ordinary drawing inside it, which will be visible through the base, helping you to more accurately draw the details of the future stained glass window.

Because of the large volume of the picture, it takes a long time to dry: it is advised to leave the file with the applied paint for the whole night. After that, the film can be carefully separated, and from the side of contact with it, the picture will have a perfectly flat and very smooth surface. It also needs to be glued to the window. To do this, simply attach the product to the glass and gently smooth.

Due to the brightness and uniqueness of the result, this kind of creativity is very popular among children, mothers also like it, but for the simplicity and low cost of the recipe.

Sophisticated recipes for serious creativity.

The above recipe is good in its own way, but it is more suitable for children's creativity, while adults also paint on glass with success, creating true masterpieces. Purchase paint would be useful for such tasks, but homemade paint often does an excellent job with this task.

It should be noted that the composition of such a substance often includes toxic and hazardous ingredients, so it is necessary to follow all possible safety measures so that they do not get on the skin, eyes or respiratory tract.

Based on nitrolac

2/3 of nitrolac need to dilute approximately 1/3 of the solvent, tint the mass of artistic paint. As in the “children's” recipe, the exact proportion of paint depends on the desired intensity of the composition, the proportions of nitrolac and solvent can also be slightly adjusted depending on the thickness of the mixture.

It is possible to use the resulting colored lacquer to fill in stained glass contours, since it is not very suitable for literal drawing.

Based on glue BF-2

This recipe is very similar to the previous ones, but it contains much more chemistry. Glue of a light shade mixes with acetone which dilutes it a little, and then paint is added to structure. It is important to remember that the dye is not suitable for any, but only one that is soluble in alcohol.

At home, a similar ingredient can be obtained by pumping out ink from an ordinary pen - then you can safely say that the glass is painted with ordinary colored ink.

Gelatin based

This recipe has a relatively high complexity of preparation, but there are no obvious toxic components. For a start, a foundation is created. To do this, dilute the gelatin in water in the proportion of 6 grams per cup.

In another jar, a dry dye for fabrics should be diluted in water, here the proportions depend on the desired color saturation and instructions on the dye packaging. After that, the base and diluted dye can be mixed together by adjusting the amount of paint to determine the hue of the finished mixture.

The resulting substance has a rather low resistance to any external influences, because the use of colorless nitrolac for protection is mandatory.
