The biometric document of the new version is considered valid for a decade, the old one is only five years old. Given that the child is growing rapidly, facial features are modified, customs and border control officers recommend that such a document be suitable for no more than three years.

It is preferable to issue new biometric passports to older children, and babies and toddlers under five years old are better off choosing passports without biometric data. There are several reasons to replace the official travel document before the date set in the regulation:

• The biometric document of a new variant for kids who have not reached the age of fourteen - 1,500 rubles.
• The biometric document of a new variant for children who celebrated their fourteenth anniversary - 3,500 rubles.
• An official document valid for up to five years for children under the age of fourteen - 1000 rubles.
