Inhalations with Ventolin Nebula for children

Content

If you need to quickly eliminate bronchospasm, use inhalation with drugs acting mainly on the muscles of the bronchial tree. One of them is Ventolin Nebula. Is it permitted to children when applied and how to use it correctly?

Release form

Ventolin Nebula is a clear solution, which can be either light yellow or colorless. It is packaged in opaque plastic ampoules, which are called nebulas. Each such polyethylene ampoule includes 2.5 ml of solution. The vials are soldered to each other in 10 pieces and packaged in a foil bag. One pack of medication includes 2 bags, that is, one pack contains 20 nebul.

Composition

The main ingredient of Ventolin Nebula is salbutamol sulfate. In 1 ml of the solution it is contained in a dose of 1 mg, that is, one nebula includes 2.5 mg of such active compound. It is supplemented with diluted sulfuric acid, purified water and sodium chloride.

Operating principle

The drug affects the adrenoreceptors located in the smooth muscles of the bronchi (beta-2 receptors), as a result of which the muscles relax and the bronchi expand. The action after the use of Ventolin Nebula comes within five minutes and lasts about 4-6 hours. The medication has little effect on other adrenoreceptors, causing only a slight increase in the heart rate and dilation of the heart vessels.

Indications

The most frequent reason to use Ventolin in nebulah is an attack of bronchial asthma. The drug can eliminate bronchospasm, if it has already begun, and prevent its occurrence, for example, due to strong physical exertion. In addition, the drug is used in other pathologies of the bronchi and lungs, if one of their symptoms is obstruction.

At what age is it allowed to take?

In the annotation to the drug noted that its use at the age of 18 months is limited. For the children of the first years of life, the drug is prescribed in very rare cases, if there is evidence. Inhalation at an early age without consultation with a pediatrician is unacceptable.

Contraindications

Inhalation with Ventolin Nebula is prohibited in case of intolerance to salbutamol or another medication ingredient. Very carefully the drug is prescribed to children diagnosed with thyrotoxicosis, diabetes mellitus, pheochromocytoma, severe heart disease, or tachyarrhythmias.

Overdose

Too much dosage of Ventolin provokes the occurrence of tachycardia, tremor, headache and other symptoms, the occurrence of which is associated with the effect of salbutamol on adrenoreceptors. In addition, an excessive amount of the drug provokes acidosis and hypokalemia.
