Berodual for children

Content

In the treatment of pathologies of the respiratory tract are often used bronchodilators. One of the drugs in this group is Berodual. Is it possible to prescribe it to children, when it is justified and how to properly treat a child with this remedy?

Release form

In the pharmacy network, you can purchase two versions of the drug:

  1. Berodual in the form of a solution. It is a clear liquid without any suspension and pronounced odor. One package of this medication is represented by a bottle with 20 ml of solution, equipped with a dropper.
  2. Berodual H in aerosol. This is a pocket spray, equipped with a mouthpiece. Inside one pack with a capacity of 10 ml is 200 doses.

Composition

Berodual contains two active components:

  1. Fenoterol hydrobromide. It contains 500 μg in 1 ml of solution, and 50 μg in one dose of aerosol.
  2. Ipratropium bromide. Its dosage in the solution for inhalation is 250 μg per 1 ml, and in an aerosol - 20 μg per dose of the drug.

Benzalkonium chloride, hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride, purified water and edetate di sodium are auxiliary compounds in the solution used for the inhalation administration of Berodual using a nebulizer. In addition to the active ingredients, the pocket can contains distilled water and ethyl alcohol, as well as tetrafluoroethane and citric acid.

Berodual is available as an aerosol and inhalation solution.

Operating principle

The active components of Berodual have bronchodilator activity. The drug is a combination of beta-2-adrenergic and m-holinoblokatora. Their action is mutually enhanced and manifests itself in the antispasmodic effect that the drug causes in the smooth muscles of the bronchi.

Already 15 minutes after the use of Berodual, bronchospasm is eliminated, and lung function is improved.. The maximum therapeutic effect of the drug is observed 1-2 hours after inhalation of an aerosol or inhalation. The duration of the effect can be up to 6 hours.

In this case, the drug does not impair the production of mucus in the bronchi, and does not have a negative effect on the process of gas exchange in the lungs. Its action is the relaxation of smooth muscles in the bronchi and in the vessels. Berodual is also able to prevent the appearance of bronchospasm due to allergies.

Instructions for use

Solution

For inhalation with Berodual use a nebulizer to the drug fell into the small bronchi. The dosage is determined individually depending on the disease, severity of bronchospasm and duration of treatment:

  • A child under 6 years of age must not exceed 10 drops of Berodual (0.5 ml of solution).
  • In case of moderate bronchial spasm, the initial dose will also be 0.5 ml of the preparation for 1 procedure.
  • If the bronchospasm is severe, the dose for children under the age of 12 is 2 ml (40 drops), and for 12-year-old children and older, 2.5 ml (50 drops).
  • A very serious condition needs to increase the dose to 3-4 ml of the drug (60-80 drops). The maximum amount of liquid Berodual that a child can receive per day is 4 ml (under the age of 12 years) or 8 ml (over the age of 12 years).

The frequency of inhalation, if necessary, can reach 4 procedures per day. Before use, Berodual must be diluted with saline to obtain a volume of the diluted drug of 3-4 ml (the proportions depend on the dose of Berodual used). The child must inhale the drug through a nebulizer for 6-7 minutes before it is fully consumed. How many days you can breathe Berodual should be determined by a pediatrician.

To dilute the drug can only be used saline. Distilled water is not suitable for this purpose. In addition, Berodual should be diluted right before the procedure, since the medicine mixed with saline cannot be stored.

Spray can

During an attack, a child of 6 years is recommended to inhale 2 doses of such Berodual. With the ineffectiveness of the drug after 5 minutes, repeated inhalation of two more doses is allowed. If such a double application does not ease breathing, you should immediately call an ambulance.

If treatment with an aerosol form of Berodual is prescribed for a long period, then the medication is prescribed in 1 or 2 doses per application. Inhalation of this amount of aerosol, depending on the reason for the therapy, is needed 3-8 times a day.

One bottle of Berodual aerosol contains 200 doses.

Before the first use, you need to shake the can, and then press it on the bottom 2 times. Next, before each use, remove the cap from the cartridge and suggest that the child take a deep breath (slowly), and then clasp the tip of the cartridge with his lips.

During inhalation, they quickly press on the bottom, as a result of which 1 dose will fall into the airways of the child. Next, the patient must hold the breath and remove the tip, and after a few seconds to make a slow exhalation. Repeated inhalation of another 1 dose occurs in the same way, after which the can is closed with a protective cap.

If the drug is not used for more than three days, before inhaling Berodual, you need to press the bottom of the can so that the spray forms an aerosol cloud in the air. Inside one pack contains 200 doses, after use of which the can is recommended to be replaced, even if there is still some content in it. To keep the tip clean, wash it regularly with warm water.

Overdose

Exceeding the dose of Berodual recommended by the doctor leads to tachycardia, an increase or decrease in blood pressure, heart pain, tremor, arrhythmias and other negative manifestations. The same symptoms will occur if the child accidentally drank the solution. DDoctors prescribe beta-blockers, tranquilizers, sedatives and other drugs to treat and eliminate the effects of an overdose.

Interaction with other drugs

  • Bronchodilation under the influence of Berodual will be more pronounced if the treatment is supplemented with theophylline, anticholinergic and beta-adrenergic drugs. However, in this case, the risk of side effects will also increase.
  • If beta-blockers are prescribed with Berodual, this will weaken the bronchodilation effect of the medication.
  • The simultaneous use of Berodual and diuretics or corticosteroid hormones will increase the likelihood of lowering potassium levels in the blood, which increases the risk of arrhythmias.

Terms of sale

Before purchasing Berodual in a pharmacy, you need to submit a prescription from a doctor. The average price of a 20 ml solution for inhalation is 250-270 rubles, and one spray bottle is 450-490 rubles.

A pharmacist will sell Berodual only by prescription from a doctor.

Storage conditions and shelf life

It is important to keep the packing of Berodual in a place inaccessible to small children at a temperature from 0 ° С to 30 ° С The dosed aerosol has a shelf life of 3 years, and for an inhalation solution it is slightly longer and is 5 years.

Reviews

On the use of Berodual in children with an attack of asthma, parents respond mostly positively. They confirm the speed of action of the drug, but often complain of side effects, such as rapid pulse or nausea. Doctors call Berodual a highly effective medicine and often prescribe it for asthma and other pathologies that provoke bronchospasm. In their experience, such a drug copes well with the elimination of spasm in the bronchi and quickly facilitates the breathing of patients.

Analogs

Instead of Berodual, the doctor may prescribe such medications:

  • Berotek. The active ingredient of this solution for inhalation is fenoterol. The drug is in demand for asthma attacks and other types of obstruction. Up to the age of six, he, like Berodual, is prescribed only under the supervision of a physician.
  • Ventolin. The active substance in this medicine is salbutamol. The drug is produced in aerosol form and is used for asthma, chronic bronchitis and other lung diseases. Its use is allowed from 2 years of age.
  • Ipraterol-native This is a complete analogue of Berodual for the active ingredients, prescribed for obstructive bronchitis and asthma. It is available in solution for inhalation.
  • Pulmicort. This medicine is a corticosteroid, prescribed for asthma and false croup. Inhalation with this drug is allowed from 6 months. They help with severe shortness of breath, barking cough, hoarse voice and other symptoms of laryngeal stenosis.
  • Lasolvan. Such a drug is a group of mucolytics, so it is claimed for dry cough, in which the sputum is very viscous. Inhalations with Lasolvan help to normalize the condition of the bronchial secretions and facilitate its coughing with tracheobronchitis, bronchitis and other pathologies. Treatment with this medication is often combined with the use of Berodual. First, they do the procedure with Berodual, and then the child breathes Lasolvan, as a result of which the cough becomes wet. However, due to the active wet cough after such a combination of drugs it is not recommended for the night.
