Breastfeeding with lactase deficiency (lactose intolerance)

Now quite often the kids are diagnosed "lactose intolerance"or, in a different way, lactase deficiency, in which the baby’s body is not able to process lactose. Therefore, when breastfed, mothers are wondering if it is possible to feed a baby with this diagnosis of breast milk.

If a child has a functional deficiency of lactase, continue to breast feed such a baby is allowed.

Breast-feeding You can also continue with a secondary form of lactose intolerance, the reason for the development of which was:

  • gastritis;
  • dysbacteriosis;
  • antibiotic treatment and similar factors.

At the same time, it is recommended to pump about 1/3 of the milk from the breast offered to the baby so that the baby gets more back milk.

If the baby receives milk formula in addition to breast milk, it is recommended to increase the fat content by adding a small amount of olive oil.

For other forms of lactase deficiency, consult a doctor. May be partially assigned to lactose free mixtures. Complete rejection of breast milk is only necessary in the innate form, which is extremely rare.
