Ersefuril for children: instructions for use

Content

Many mothers encounter diarrhea in a child, because the children's organism is more susceptible to the action of harmful bacteria, and the digestive tract in the first years of life is not yet fully mature. Most often, special solutions for rehydration are used to treat this problem in order to rule out the main complication of acute diarrhea - dehydration.

However, antimicrobial drugs, such as Ersefuril, are sometimes used additionally. In order for such a drug to really help eliminate diarrhea and not worsen the condition of a small patient, you first need to find out how it works and how to give it to children properly.

Release form

Ersefuril is a product of the French company Sanofi and is available in one form only. These are gelatin capsules having a size of 1 and a yellow shell, and inside is a yellow powder. They are packaged in blisters of 14 pieces and sold for 14-28 capsules in one carton box. In syrup, tablets, suspensions and other forms of "Ersefuril" is not available.

Composition

The action of the drug is provided by a substance called nifuroxazide. Its amount in each capsule is 200 mg. In the manufacture of the drug, this ingredient is mixed with magnesium stearate, sucrose and corn starch, and then placed in a shell of yellow iron oxide, titanium dioxide and gelatin.

Operating principle

The main ingredient in capsules is derived from nitrofuran and has antimicrobial properties. It affects the various biochemical processes that occur in bacterial cells, and also destroys their membranes and reduces the production of toxins in microbial cells.

Ersefuril has high activity against Escherichia coli, clostridia, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Vibrio (including cholera), Shigella and Staphylococcus. However, the sensitivity of Proteus, entero-and citrobacteria to this medicine is weak, and the drug does not work at all on pseudomonads, providence and Klebsiella.

A separate advantage is the lack of negative effects of nifuroxazide on the balance of intestinal microflora. If a patient has acute diarrhea caused by bacteria, Ersefuril helps to restore eubiosis, and if the intestine is infected with viruses, such capsules do not allow bacterial complications.

Indications

The reason for prescribing "Ersefuril" to a child is acute diarrhea, which has arisen due to pathogenic bacteria. The tool is in demand for salmonellosis, dysentery and other intestinal infections, as well as poisoning with spoiled products.

From what age is assigned to children?

The use of "Ersefuril" in children recommended from 3 years. If it is required to give medicine to babies of the first years of life, this medicine is replaced with an analogue in suspension.

Contraindications

The drug is not used if the child has hypersensitivity to its active substance, other nitrofuran derivatives, or any of the auxiliary ingredients.

Since sucrose is added to the powder contained in the capsules, Ersefuril should not be used in children with hereditary sugar absorption problems.

Side effects

The body of some children "responds" to taking capsules with allergies, such as skin rashes, angioedema, shortness of breath, or another allergic reaction. If such symptoms occur, you should immediately discontinue the drug and consult a doctor.

Instructions for use

The drug should be swallowed and washed down with water. A single dose is 200 mg, that is, one capsule. If a child is from 3 to 6 years old, he must take “Ersefuril” three times a day - every 8 hours. For patients older than 6 years, the same regimen is often used, but more frequent intake is possible - every 6 hours, that is, four times a day.

The duration of the capsules is usually 5-7 days. The use of the drug for more than one week is not recommended. If in the first 2-3 days there is no improvement, you should contact your doctor.

An urgent consultation with a doctor is also required when the condition worsens and when mucus or blood appears in the feces.

Interaction with other medicines

"Ersefuril" should not be taken with drugs that can inhibit the central nervous system, as well as some other medicines. If the child has been prescribed other medications, it is worth consulting with a specialist about compatibility. The tool is recommended to be used together with rehydration solutions in order to prevent significant loss of fluid and electrolytes.

Terms of sale and storage

It is not difficult to buy Ersefuril at the pharmacy, as it is a non-prescription drug, but it is undesirable to give medicine to children without the consent of the doctor. The average price of 14 capsules is 400 rubles. They should be stored at home in a dry place, in which small children will not get the medicine, and the temperature will not be above +30 degrees. The shelf life of the drug - 5 years.

Reviews

Ersefuril receives mostly positive reviews from parents. The remedy is praised for its effectiveness and quick action in diarrhea. According to moms, taking capsules helped to improve the condition of the child and get rid of diarrhea, which was caused by disease-causing microbes.

The disadvantages of drugs often include its high cost, because of which often prefer cheaper antidiarrheals. Side effects are reported very rarely. Most children suffer "Ersefuril" normally, and there have been no cases of overdose of such a tool until this time.

Analogs

Instead of “Ersefuril”, other drugs of nifuroxazide can be used, for example, “Enterofuril, Stopdiar, Nifuroksazid-Richter, Adisord or Mirofuril. Many of them are represented by solid form (capsules or tablets), but some are also produced in suspension. Such liquid medicine can be used even in infants, since it is contraindicated only in the neonatal period.

Replace "Ersefuril" with other antidiarrheal drugs ("Loperamide», «Enterol"," Diar ","Imodium") Without consultation with the physician is impossible, since such means have other indications and other active substances. According to doctors, for most children, diarrhea is sufficient to give a lot of drinking to prevent dehydration, as well as to follow the diet (correct the diet), and the child’s intestines are often disposed of independently.

Of the medicines, enterosorbents are called the safest, but it is better to first discuss their use with a doctor (especially if diarrhea occurs in a child's first years of life). Antimicrobial agents are often ineffective, because viruses, eating disorders, nerve overloads and other factors can cause diarrhea. For this reason, giving the child "Ersefuril" or any of its analogs is not worth it.
