Suspension "Stopdiar": instructions for use

Content

For diarrhea in childhood, special attention is paid to nutrition and rehydration, but sometimes antimicrobial anti-diarrhea medicines have to be used. One of such means is Stopdiar from Gedeon Richter. For children, it is most convenient to use it in the form of a suspension, because thanks to the sweet taste and liquid texture, it is very easy to give it to kids. In addition, the use of this type of medicine is possible even in infants, since such a medicine is allowed from 1 month.

Release form and composition

Liquid Stopdiar is sold in an orange glass bottle, inside of which there is 90 ml of homogeneous liquid. During storage, its components can settle, but after stirring, they are evenly mixed and the suspension becomes homogeneous again. The drug has a sweet taste, light yellow color and a pleasant smell of banana. A dosing double spoon is attached to the bottle, which can be used to measure either 2.5 ml or 5 ml of the medicine.

The main ingredient of Stopdiar is called nifuroxazide. It is he who provides the antimicrobial properties of the drug and is contained in 5 milliliters of the drug in the amount of 220 mg. For sweet taste, sucrose is added to the solution, and the smell of the medicine is due to the banana flavor. Other auxiliary components of the product include simethicone (it is presented in the form of a 30% emulsion), citric acid, carbomer, water, methyl parahydroxybenzoate and sodium hydroxide.

In addition to the liquid form, "Stopdiar" also produced in capsules containing 200 mg of the active ingredient in each. Such a drug is prescribed to children older than three years, and in the treatment of schoolchildren and adolescents, it can be replaced by another solid form of the drug - film-coated tablets. Each of these tablets has 100 mg of nifuroxazide, and they can be given to children from 7 years of age.

Operating principle

The active component of "Stopdiar" has a direct effect on microbes that provoke diarrhea - Escherichia, Shigella, vibrios, Campylobacter, Clostridia and others. Under the influence of nifuroxazide, the reproduction of the pathogen and the release of toxins from the child’s organism intoxication by microbes cease. At the same time, the suspension does not act on beneficial bacteria. On the contrary, when taking “Stopdiar” the intestinal microflora balance is restored and preserved.

Indications

The reason to appoint a suspension to the child is diarrhea, which is triggered by a bacterial infection. The tool is used for moderate and weak diarrhea, if the general condition of the small patient is not disturbed (body temperature is normal and there are no other symptoms of intoxication).

In case of a viral infection that is manifested by loose stools (for example, if the disease has provoked rotavirus or enterovirus), Stopdiar can be administered prophylactically to prevent the adherence of bacterial complications.

Contraindications

The drug is not used in newborns - the suspension is contraindicated in infants up to 1 month, and with prematurity in children older than a month, the drug should be prescribed by a doctor. In addition, the drug is not used in case of hypersensitivity to any component and in case of allergy to other means of the nitrofuran group.Treatment with Stopdiar should also be abandoned for some hereditary problems with the absorption of sugars, for example, if the child has no isomaltase in the body or the patient has revealed fructose intolerance.

Side effects

The tool acts only in the intestines, that is, its components are almost not absorbed into the blood, so "Stopdiar" does not cause general negative effects. However, in rare cases, the drug may develop an allergic reaction.

If, after taking the suspension, a child has a skin rash, swelling, shortness of breath, urticaria or other signs of allergy, you should immediately refuse further treatment, and if symptoms are pronounced, consult a doctor.

Instructions for use

In children under three years old, treatment with Stopdiar must be monitored by a doctor. The drug is dosed with a spoon, which is sold with a bottle. Before giving the suspension to a small patient, the medicament needs to return uniformity by shaking the bottle several times. Further, "Stopdiar" is used according to the scheme, which corresponds to the age of the child.

  • Infant older than a month, but younger than 6 months of age need to give 110 mg of the active substance at one time. This dose of medicine is contained in a small measuring spoon. The crumb must receive the product at intervals of 8 to 12 hours, as the frequency of administration recommended at this age is 2-3 times.
  • A kid who is already half a year old but not yet three years old “Stopdiar” is given in the same dosage, that is, in one measured small spoon (110 mg of nifuroxazide). The drug should be drunk three times a day - about every eight hours.
  • For a child aged 3 to 6 years a single dose is doubled, so for dosing you need to use a large spoon. The drug is given to the patient every 8 hours in a spoonful so that the baby receives 220 mg of nifuroxazide.
  • If diarrhea is detected in a child older than six years then he is prescribed "Stopdiar" in the same dose as in 3-6 years old - in one large measuring spoon (220 mg). In this case, it is possible to give the suspension three times a day, and more often - every 6 hours (in this case, the child will receive the medication four times).

The duration of drug treatment is usually from 5 to 7 days. If a week from the start of taking "Stopdiar" diarrhea has not stopped, you need to stop using the suspension and show the child to the doctor.

Examination by a specialist is recommended even in the absence of positive changes after 3 days from the start of the use of the drug, as this indicates either the resistance of bacteria to nifuroxazide, or another reason for loose stools.

Overdose

Cases of the negative impact of excessive dosage "Stopdiar" on the child's body to date has not been. If a child accidentally drinks a lot of suspension, which is possible because of its sweet taste and storage in an accessible place, it is recommended to monitor the patient's condition - if it worsens, the baby should be shown to the pediatrician.

Drug interaction

The manufacturer does not recommend the use of "Stopdiar" together with drugs that inhibit the work of the central nervous system, as well as with some other drugs. And therefore, if the child needs to take any medications, in addition to suspension, their compatibility should be checked with the attending physician.

It is allowed to combine "Stopdiar" with rehydration agents, and when used simultaneously with enterosorbents, it is necessary to wait 1.5-2 hours between doses so that the sorbent does not reduce the therapeutic effect of nifuroxazide.

Terms of sale and storage

Suspension "Stopdiar", like other forms of medication, is sold without a prescription. One bottle of the drug costs 300-370 rubles. You can not store the medication at home in the refrigerator, as the recommended storage temperature of the solution is up to +25 degrees. While the bottle is sealed, the drug retains its properties for 3 years from the date of manufacture, however, after opening the lid and first use, the suspension can be stored for no longer than 14 days.

Reviews

About treatment with the liquid form "Stopdiar" speak mostly positively. Among the advantages of the drug, its rapid action, ease of dosing, sweet taste and rare side effects are noted. The disadvantages of the drug usually include a short shelf life and high cost, since there are more affordable analogues. Also, some mothers do not like the presence in the composition of the suspension auxiliary chemical compounds. In a few negative reviews, parents complain that the drug did not help or caused allergies.

Analogs

One of the most popular analogues of "Stopdiar" can be called "Enterofuril". This medicine is also represented by a sweet banana suspension, which is used for the same indications. Side effects, dosages and contraindications for such drugs are the same as for age, since Enterofuril in liquid form can also be applied from 1 month.

Replace "Stopdiar" and "Enterofuril"You can and other drugs that contain the same active ingredient. In liquid form, analogues are produced under the name "Ecofuril", "Nifuroxahide-Richter" and "Mirofuril".

If the baby has revealed intolerance to nifuroxazide, the doctor will recommend another drug for diarrhea, for example, "Enterol», «Loperamide" or "Imodium", But it is impossible to give such funds without appointing a specialist
