Release form

The drug is produced by several domestic pharmaceutical companies - in the form of alcohol drops, which are taken orally. One bottle of this medicine contains 25 or 40 ml of a yellowish or colorless clear solution that smells like anise and ammonia.

Composition

There are two active ingredients in drops:

  • Oil obtained from the seeds of anise in the amount of 2.81 g per 100 ml of solution.
  • Diluted ammonia solution (10%) in the amount of 15 ml per 100 ml of the preparation.

The remainder of the drug is 90% ethyl alcohol. There are no other chemicals in ammonia-anisic drops.

Operating principle

The combination of ammonia solution and anise oil differs in expectorant effect, since such components are able to reflex stimulate the motor function of the bronchi and activate the production of secretions in the respiratory tract. As a result of this effect, the sputum from the bronchioles and bronchi better moves to the upper respiratory tract and is removed from the lungs.

Indications

Drops on the basis of oil from anise and diluted ammonia are prescribed for coughing caused by acute lesions of the respiratory tract - for example, for bronchitis, tracheitis, bronchopneumonia or pleurisy.

From what age is prescribed?

No age restrictions on the use of ammonia – anisic drops in the annotation to the drug are noted, but only the doctor should prescribe the drug to children, and for babies up to one year it is usually replaced by other means that do not have alcohol.

For example, a two-year-old child needs to be given 2 drops per reception, and for a 7-year-old child, a single dose will be 7 drops.

Overdose and drug interactions

The use of medication together with antitussive medications will worsen expectoration of sputum, therefore such a combination of coughing agents is not prescribed. However, ammonia and anisic drops can be combined with other expectorant drugs, as well as with inhalation and rubbing the chest.
