Release form and composition

"Evamenol" is a Russian drug, which is produced only in one form - nasal ointment. According to the physical properties of such a drug is represented by a yellowish thick mass that smells like eucalyptus and menthol. This aroma of the ointment is due to its main components, which are levomenthol and eucalyptus oil.

Both active ingredients are contained in 100 grams of the drug by 1 gram. The only additional component of the drug is petrolatum. The medicine is sold in aluminum tubes placed in a carton box. One tube holds 15 grams of ointment.

Operating principle

The main action of the components of Evamenol is distracting, since they are able to stimulate sensitive receptors in the nasal mucosa. Due to such stimulation, after applying the ointment, the blood vessels in the nose narrow, and menthol also has a slight local anesthetic effect. In addition, eucalyptus oil has anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, some active ingredients ointment noted some antiseptic effect.

Indications

Given the mechanism of action and properties of Evamenol, this medication is used for rhinitis and nasopharyngitis. This symptomatic remedy is prescribed both to patients with an acute form of rhinitis, and for the treatment of chronic rhinitis or pharyngitis.

The drug is not used in children under two years. If the baby has not yet turned 2 years old, then his rhinitis is treated with other medicines that are safer for infants.

Contraindications

Ointment is not used in children with:

  • allergic rhinitis;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • cough with a lot of sputum;
  • false croup;
  • prolonged cough caused by emphysema or other chronic lung disease;
  • whooping cough;
  • susceptibility to bronchospasm or laryngospasm;
  • intolerance to menthol or another component of the medication.

To avoid an allergic reaction to the components of the ointment, it is recommended that before starting treatment, a test should be performed, smearing the skin on the wrist with a small amount of the drug. If irritation, redness or itching is missing a few hours after such a test, then the medicine can be applied to the nose.

If the drug accidentally gets into the child’s eyes, it may cause burning and other uncomfortable symptoms. To prevent such a problem when processing "Evamenol" you need to make sure that the tool does not fall on the conjunctiva.

For one procedure, use a strip of ointment about 5 mm - in such an amount the agent is taken for each of the nasal passages.

You can lay the medication with your finger, but when treating children it is more convenient to use a cotton swab or cotton swab. The frequency of treatment of the nose - 2 or 3 times a day, and the duration of use of "Evamenol" can be from 5 to 10 days. Longer use requires consulting a doctor.
