Supraksa analogs for children

Content

Suprax - One of the popular antibiotics, it has a fairly wide range of effects on bacteria of various species. There are several dosage forms. This drug is often prescribed to children, but sometimes it is not possible to use it. What can replace Supraks in this situation?

Features of the drug

Suprax is a product of Astellas Pharma Europe from the Netherlands, which is also known for such drugs as Vilprafen, Lokoid, Flemoxine Solutab, Unidox Solutab, Pimafukort and others. Suprax is produced in several forms:

  • Spherical granules placed in a glass vial. After adding 40 ml of water to them, a sweet suspension with strawberry flavor is formed, containing 100 mg of cefixime in 5 ml. Its auxiliary components are flavoring, sodium benzoate, sucrose and xanthan gum.
  • White-purple capsules, inside of which is placed a yellow-white powder. They are sold for 6 pieces in one pack. Each capsule contains 400 mg of cefixime, as well as magnesium stearate, gelatin and some other substances.
  • Orange dispersible tablets, which when dissolved, receive a suspension with the same strawberry flavor. This drug is called Supraks Solutab and is sold from 1 to 10 tablets per pack. Its action also provides cefixime at a dose of 400 mg per tablet (200 mg in half). Additionally, the drug contains calcium saccharinate, a dye, MCC, povidone, flavoring and other compounds.

All these drugs can be purchased at a pharmacy by prescription, paying an average of 600 rubles per granule per bottle, and 700 rubles per pack of capsules. The shelf life of all forms of Suprax is 3 years, but after dilution of the granules with water, this medicine should be stored for no longer than 14 days.

How does it work?

Suprax has a bactericidal effect on pneumococcus, shigella, E. coli, streptococcus, salmonella and many other microbes. The drug damages their membranes, which leads to the death of the pathogen. This medicine is referred to as third generation cephalosporin antibiotics. It is prescribed for sinus, bronchitis, angina, inflammation of the middle ear and many other infections.

In childhood Supraks is most in demand in granules. It is permissible to give children older than six months. This form is praised for ease of use and sweet taste. No less popular are the Solutab tablets, because they can be diluted and given in liquid form. This medication is prescribed to children who weigh more than 25 kg.

But Suprax in capsules contains a fairly large dose, so this tool is allowed only from 12 years of age or younger patients, if their body weight is more than 50 kg.

The main contraindication to taking Supraksa is intolerance to such a drug. If a child has pseudomembranous colitis or a severe kidney disease has been identified, the use of an antibiotic requires the supervision of a physician. Among the side effects of the medication are allergic reactions, negative symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract, headaches, blood disorders, candidiasis or dysbiosis.

What can be replaced?

Other drugs cefixime

The most optimal replacement of Supraksa in the absence of such a drug in a pharmacy can be called an antibiotic that contains the same active substance. Such a remedy is a drug called Pancef, manufactured in Macedonia.

One of its forms is represented by granules, from which an orange suspension is obtained. It, like liquid Suprax, contains in every 5 ml of 100 mg of cefixime in the form of trihydrate. The difference between the compositions of such drugs is only a flavoring, the other components are the same.

According to the instructions, Pancef is used from 6 months of age with the same diseases and is not prescribed for the same contraindications as Supraks. The possible side effects of these drugs, as well as the doses and storage times given to children, also coincide. But the price of such Pantsef is somewhat lower, since 300-450 rubles must be paid for one bottle.

In addition to granules, Pancef is also produced in solid form - in tablets, each of which is a source of 400 mg cefixime. Since such a medicine has a shell and it is impossible to divide a pill, this form of medication is prescribed at the age of 12. This is better to choose Pancef to replace Supraksa capsules.

Another medicine based on cefixime is Ixim Lupine. This medicine is made in India in the form of a powder, from which it is necessary to make a suspension. She has a strawberry flavor and the same dosage of cefixime, as in the ready suspension Supraks (20 mg in 1 ml).

The composition of the drug is very similar to Supraks and differs only in the presence of another auxiliary component - silicon dioxide. The finished suspension Ixim Lupine can also be stored for no longer than 14 days, and the shelf life of the sealed medicine is only 2 years. The cost of one bottle of such funds is about 480 rubles, that is, it costs less than a similar form of Supraks.

Other cephalosporins

Replace Suprax in the treatment of sinusitis, otitis, bronchitis and many other diseases are capable of other drugs from the same group of antibiotics. They are effective against a large number of bacterial species and have a bactericidal effect, since they can cause lysis of microbial cells. The list of these drugs include such drugs:

  • Zinnat. This medicine belongs to the second generation and contains cefuroxime. It is produced in granules (prepared from them suspension can be given to children older than 3 months) and in coated tablets (they are used from the age of three). It may be replaced by other cefuroxime preparations, for example, Zinatsef, Cefurus or Supero.
  • Ceftriaxone. This medicine represents the third generation of cephalosporin antibiotics and works due to ceftriaxone sodium. The drug is released only in an injection form - in vials of powder, in which sterile water is added, and then an intravenous injection is given. It can also be administered intramuscularly, and for less pain, the solvent is lidocaine. The use of such an antibiotic is possible at any age. Its analogues are Hazaran, Lendocin, Rocephin, Cefaxone, Cefogram and other drugs.
  • Cefotaxime. This drug also belongs to the third generation and contains the same active substance. It is represented by a powder placed in vials - the drug is injected intramuscularly or into a vein. Such a medicine can be administered even to newborns. Among the analogues of Cefotaxime can be called Claforan, Cefosin, Cefantral, Litoran, Cetax and other means.
  • Cedex. Such a bactericidal drug is another member of the third generation of cephalosporins. Its action provides ceftibuten. Like Supraks, this antibiotic is produced in suspension powder (it has a cherry flavor) and in capsules. Liquid form is prescribed to patients older than 6 months.
  • Fortum. This medicine containing ceftazidime is prescribed for infections of children of any age. The drug belongs to the 3rd generation and is used only parenterally (injected into a vein or administered as intramuscular injections). The same active substance contains drugs Vice, Ceftazidim-AKOS, Tezim, Orzid and others.

Children's antibiotics of other groups

In some cases, the use of Supraksa or other cephalosporins is impossible (for example, if you are hypersensitive or persistent pathogen), then the child may be prescribed antibacterial agents with a different composition and mechanism of action. For example, instead of Supraksa, a doctor can write out:

  • Sumamed. This popular macrolide antibiotic contains azithromycin and is available in many forms. In the treatment of children, the suspension most often used from 6 months of age is most often used, and the solid forms are given from 3 years, taking into account the dosage of the medicine. Analogues of this means are AzitRus, Hemomycin, Azitrox, Ecomed and other drugs.
  • Augmentin. This medicine contains amoxicillin in combination with clavulanic acid. It comes in suspensions (it is permissible to use even in infants), tablets (they are given to children over 12 years old) and injectable form. This antibiotic can be replaced with drugs Panklav, Amoxiclav, Ranklav, Medoclav and others.
  • Klacid. This is another representative of macrolides, but its action is provided by clarithromycin. Fruit suspension with this name is given to children who are 6 months old. Klacid tablets are used from 3 years, and injections in children are contraindicated. Analogues of this antibiotic are drugs Klabuks, Fromilid, Clarbact and other means.
  • Macropene. This antimicrobial drug from the macrolide group contains midecamycin and is produced in two forms. One of them is a banana-like suspension prescribed to children from birth.

The second form - coated tablets - is used in the treatment of infections in 3-year-olds and older.

About which antibiotic is better to use for bronchitis, Dr. Komarovsky will tell in the next video.
