Ixim Lupine for children: instructions for use

Content

Cephalosporin antibiotics are often used in childhood because they are effective and help cure most of the infections found in children. Especially in demand medicines that can be taken orally. One of them is “Ixim Lupine”.

Release form and composition

The drug is manufactured by the Indian company "LUPIN", which influenced its name. The only form of medicine is a powder placed in an amount of 25 g in a plastic bottle. It has a white or yellowish color and a strawberry scent. After adding 34 ml of water to the bottle, a sweet strawberry white or yellow suspension is obtained in a volume of 50 ml.

The main component of Ixim Lupine is called cefixime. It is in powder in the form of trihydrate, but in terms of the anhydrous active substance, its dosage per 5 milliliters of the finished suspension is 100 mg.

Additionally, the product contains sodium benzoate, aerosil, xanthan gum, strawberry flavor and sucrose.

Operating principle

Ixim Lupine represents the third generation of cephalosporin antibiotics and has a bactericidal effect on a large number of pathogenic bacteria. The drug destroys the cell walls of microbes, disrupting their formation.

The suspension is noted for high activity against pneumococci, hemophilic bacilli, Proteus, Klebsiell, Shigella, Streptococcus, and many other microorganisms. However, staphylococcus, clostridia, enterococci, pseudomonads, listeria, and some other bacteria are often resistant to its action.

Indications

Ixim Lupine is often prescribed for infections of the respiratory system, as these diseases are usually provoked by bacteria sensitive to cefixime. The medicine is used for:

  • bronchitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • tonsillitis;
  • pharyngitis;
  • otitis media;
  • pneumonia.

Suspension can also be used for bacterial infections of the bladder or other urinary organs.

From what age is prescribed?

The instructions for the powder noted that it is contraindicated for newborns and babies who have not yet turned 6 months. Infants older than six months and older patients "Ixim Lupine" should be prescribed by a doctor.

Contraindications

The drug is not used in cases of hypersensitivity to any component of the suspension, as well as in allergies to penicilliniry antibiotics. If a child has a serious kidney disease or has had colitis in the past, treatment is carried out with caution.

Side effects

Some babies develop an allergic reaction to Ixim Lupine, which is manifested by urticaria, itching, or other symptoms. In addition, the child's digestive tract can respond to a suspension with diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain and other discomforting signs.

Sometimes the use of the drug leads to disruption of the kidneys, the development of candidiasis, worsening of blood formation or headaches. If such symptoms occur, you should immediately report the side effects to the doctor.

Instructions for use

Shaking the powder inside the bottle, you need to open the lid and pour 17 ml of liquid inside, that is half of the total volume, which is used for dilution.The water used for this must be boiled and cooled to room temperature.

After closing the cap, the vial is shaken to form a homogeneous suspension. Next, you need to pour in the second half of the water (another 17 ml before labeling), shake well and leave for 5 minutes to allow the preparation to settle and completely dissolved.

Before each use, the diluted "Ixim Lupine" must be shaken.

The dosage is usually calculated individually based on the weight of the child. Each kilogram of the patient's body weight under 12 years old requires 8 mg of the active substance. In this dose, the drug is given once a day or divided into two doses with an interval of 12 hours.

On average, children younger than one year old are prescribed 2.5–4 ml per day, patients of five years are given 5 ml per day, and for children 6–11 years old, the daily dosage of the drug is from 6 to 10 ml. If a patient is more than 12 years old or his weight has exceeded 50 kg, he is given 400 mg of cefixime per day, which corresponds to 20 milliliters of suspension.

How long to take "Ixim Lupine" is determined depending on the disease, but on average, the medication is prescribed for 7-10 days.

Overdose and drug interactions

If the dosage of Ixim Lupine is too high, the risk of side effects of the suspension increases significantly, for example, diarrhea, an allergic rash or severe headache develops in a child. Finding an overdose, you should immediately show the little patient to the doctor.

As for the compatibility of this antibiotic with other drugs, it can affect the treatment of diuretics, antacids, anticoagulants and other means, therefore, the possibility of simultaneous use with other drugs should be discussed with your doctor.
