Gidelix for children: instructions for use

Content

One of the most popular medicines for coughing in children are herbal preparations with expectorant effects. A representative of this group of medicines is Gadelix. At what age is it prescribed for children, when it is used and what side effects can it have on a child's body?

Release form

Gedelix is available in two versions:

  • Syrup. This form of the drug is represented by a glass bottle in which there is 100 ml of a thickish yellow (or yellow-brown) clear solution with a peculiar aroma. Over time, it may appear clouding or sediment located at the bottom, but this does not impair the properties of the drug. A dosing spoon containing 5 ml of syrup is applied to the bottle.
  • Drops. This form of the drug is a pleasantly smelling brown liquid, packaged in 50 ml vials. Like syrup, such a liquid is often transparent, but the appearance of sediment or turbidity is considered normal.

Composition

In any form of Gedelix, the active ingredient is the extract, which is obtained from ivy leaves. Its content per 100 ml of syrup is 0.8 g, and per 100 ml of drops - 4 g. Macrogol, gietellose, anise oil and glycerol act as auxiliary ingredients in the syrup. Also, this form of Gedelix includes water, sorbitol and propylene glycol.

AT Gedelix drops also contains glycerol and propylene glycol. In addition, this solution includes peppermint oil and an aromatic composition of anise oil, levomenthol and eucalyptus oil.

Operating principle

The main effect of the drug, which is provided by Gadelix saponins from ivy leaves, is the mucolytic and expectorant effect. In addition, the tool has some antispasmodic activity.

Indications

Gedelix is used for respiratory diseases that manifest themselves as a cough with difficult sputum production. The drug is in demand for bronchitis, acute viral lesions of the upper respiratory tract and other diseases.

From what age do they apply?

Gedelix syrup is prescribed to patients of any age group, that is, such a drug can be given even to infants, for example, if the baby has become ill at the age of 4 months. Gedelix is used in drops only from the age of two, since such a remedy in children up to one year old can provoke laryngospasm.

Contraindications

Gedelix treatment is not recommended for hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients, for example, ivy extract or anise oil. Syrup does not give children with fructose intolerance. Drops are not prescribed for bronchial asthma, as well as the propensity to develop laryngospasm. In addition, contraindication to any form of Gedelix is arginine-succinate synthetase deficiency.

Side effects

Like any other medications from plant extracts, Gedelix can provoke the development of an allergic reaction. In addition, the digestive tract of some children "responds" to the reception of such a means with a liquid stool, painful sensations in the stomach, vomiting or nausea. If such symptoms occur, Gadelix should be canceled and consult a pediatrician to select the appropriate analogue.

Instructions for use and dosage

Any form of Gedelix is recommended to drink after meals., and a bottle of medicine before use, you must certainly shake. Drops are taken undiluted with water, and syrup for children over 1 year old is also often not diluted. If this sweet medicine is given to a baby, it can be mixed with a small amount of pure water.

The doctor should select the dosage of the medication, but most often Gedelix is discharged according to this scheme:

A child of the first year of life

Syrup needs to be taken 1 time a day, so its single dosage is equal to the daily and is 2.5 ml.

Drops at this age do not give.

1-2 years old child

Syrup give 2.5 ml three times a day (only 7.5 ml per day).

Drops in the treatment of children of this age do not apply.

2-4 years old child

Syrup is prescribed in a daily dosage of 7.5 ml - three times a day with 2.5 ml of the medicine.

Gedelix drops prescribed to take 3 times a day, 16 drops (48 drops in total).

A child from 4 to 10 years

The daily dosage of syrup is 10 ml. The drug give 2.5 ml per reception four times a day.

A single dose of Godelix in drops - 21 drops. They should be taken three times a day, which corresponds to a daily dose of 63 drops.

Child 10 years and older

A single dose of syrup is 5 ml. Three times the dose is prescribed, so the patient receives 15 ml of this medicine per day.

Single dosage drops - 31 drops. Taking this drug is also threefold, so the child receives 93 drops per day.

How many days to take Gadelix depends on the disease in which it is assigned. The minimum course of treatment is 7 days, but it is better to determine the duration of the reception together with your doctor, since after improvement it is advisable to drink drops or syrup for another 2-3 days.

Overdose

Taken in an unnecessarily high dosage, Gadelix causes severe nausea, loose stools or vomiting. An overdose of this drug may also trigger gastroenteritis. To eliminate these symptoms, you need to cancel the medication and consult a specialist.

Interaction with other drugs

The combination of Gadelix in any form with antitussive drugs is not recommended. If you prescribe such a medication with a cough reflex inhibitor, it will become an obstacle to expectoration of sputum and provoke mucus stagnation in the airways.

Terms of sale

Both drops and Gedelix syrup are OTC products. They can be freely purchased at the pharmacy, paying from 330 to 370 rubles per bottle.

Storage conditions and shelf life

To preserve medicinal properties, you should keep a bottle of syrup or drops away from direct sunlight. The optimal temperature limits for storing Gedeliks are + 50С and + 250С. In addition, the drug should be unavailable for babies.

Unopened Gedelix has a shelf life of 4 years, but after opening the drops or syrup, the medicine can be stored for no longer than six months. If half a year has passed since the bottle was opened, it is unacceptable to use this drug to treat children.

Reviews

In most cases, Gödelieks speak positively. Parents who used this drug for dry cough in children confirm that the product is very effective and speeds up recovery. Mothers more often choose syrup, since such Gadelix is allowed at any age, it does not contain sugar and alcohol, and most kids like its taste. Drops are also considered a convenient form and are praised for the absence of alcohol and sugar, but their taste for many young patients seems unpleasant.

Sometimes mothers mention the inefficiency of the syrup, which is why they had to change the treatment. There are also negative reviews, which mark the allergy to the drug that has arisen in some children. Many parents attribute the high price to Gedelix’s disadvantages, due to which they often look for drugs with the same effect, but cheaper.
